Yes, the trellis frame would be a typical Ducati feature, and maybe a single side rear fork too!

Actually Italy has a rather poor e-bike design record, typified by failures from Aprilia with the Enjoy and other models and the Oxygen Atala (not the current Oxygen company we know now) and don't make e-bikes any more.

They don't seem to "get it" with e-bikes in the way they do with motor bikes.

What? They've produced an awful lot of utterly crap bikes, you know.
Some of them weren't even nice to look at.

I ended up lifting the front wheel while in the lowest gear waiting for car park gates to open this morning which was something I never managed with the 26V Panasonic system. I've mostly been riding the Agattu Alfine 11 speed.
I'm terrified of those low gears on the Impulse ... they're obscenely 'responsive' on the flat. I drop it down to 5th but rarely any lower unless is pretty much a 1:7.5+ ... hill starts are effortless on the Impulse - it's very much one of it's strengths.

You should try an Impulse bike

+1 .. you can't go from theories and statistics. When you sit on one and ride it you'll realize straight away ... the main thing is trying to ease back on the pedalling because on starts it 'gives' so much more than you're actually expecting or necessarily needing.

That Audi ebike... it's indecent. :D
Complete with derailleur and an $80k build cost ... but it looks absolutely drop-dead gorgeous.

What interests me most is that they say the lithium-ion battery is housed in the frame (something I really think should become the standard for non-step-thrus and that it weighs about 5 kg (11.02 lb) and operates at a voltage of 48 V.

Its capacity is 530 Wh and it can be fully recharged from a 230 V supply in two and a half hours. Fot this you allegedly get 32-44 miles at up to 50mph (presumably on throttle as how you'd keep pedalling is a mystery).

So what's the crack with this then - how come these guys can come up with a battery that is that capacity, only that weight, can be recharged so fast and can deliver that range. The battery specifications on the readily-available market seem to be falling way short of where they ought to be as the technology to do far better cannot be far away. Come on guys .... if eBikes sold like iPhones we'd have been there years ago !

Drop dead gorgeous.......while beauty in the eye of the beholder that bit strong!lol.way behind modern bikes in weight style etc....in comparisons on German forum it don't come off that well either so I know who's opinions I trust....You struggle to find discussions on it in German forum....

had to go 3 pages in on Derby cycles forum to find any discussion on the impulse.

Panasonic vs. inpulse drive

"I recently test driven both drives and find the panasonic better mobile worlds. the impulse has disappointed me because he uses later and rougher than the panasonic. panasonic when you feel instantly at ease and helping one of these attacks immediately if one occurs eg pedal starts moving again so from the stand. however the impulse start until around 2kmh meaning Null direct traction and then but not as soft and comfortable. While the wheel was also a push to help but is again too weak as truly viable traction. For me the decision very quickly became clear = panasonic and nothing else.

I have to agree fully with Frank
I stand xxl since today 2 Rixe in the garage
I have the last 3 weeks made a real marathon test drive
the motor impulses I have test driven an extra 3 times because I just could not believe how bad it feels compared to the Panasonic.
But all 3 tests with the stimulus was absolutely not my style.
Otherwise the thing makes compared to Panasonic a racket."

and another post from someone with both Bosch and impulse bike (I can t find now) over same route impulse ran out of battery....

lots of comments about drive "banging" and "cracking" also. Personally the 36 v panasonic although expensive getting good reviews...

so dont believe the hype....try before you buy and make your own minds up.

Yea but they produced this

Ducati 916 | 916 | Ducati 916 | MCN

Still IMHO the best looking mass production bike ever produced (1096,1198 run it close but they are just derivatives of original idea)

That's old information Eddie, before they changed the software. The Impulse is now very different from that and performs as Tim and Alex have said in this thread. One of our earliest members who is very experienced on Panansonic powered bikes but now very rarely signs in has just bought an Agattu C11 Impulse and he's very impressed.

When he says it's good, I know it's not hype.

I quite liked this one at £499 new. With a bit of development, it could have been really nice.

Ah yes, concepts they are good at. Years ago Aprilia even showed a production ready hydrogen fuel cell e-bike which was gorgeous to look at.

And their production Enjoy model was a great looker but a rubbish e-bike which soon left the market. That's what I meant by them not getting it, looks don't perform.

I was told last week that the Bosch e-bike motor is infact a VW power steering motor. Scrapyards just got even more interesting!

We are selling off our stocks of 2012 Haibikes. 20% discount on all models (thats over 500 quid!). We dont have many... those we have are llisted on our website.

I dont believe any retailers hype for one minute...

I have not tried one, but as it dont appeal anyway what is the point. As for an individuals view, it really depends what the individual is comparing it with. I prefer a spread of opinion and not much positive evidence going by what I have seen.

try before you buy, compare and make your own mind up

Some of you may have spotted it before me and if reported here, I missed it but James at Justebikes who deals in several high-end makes, now has a Sparta model in his line-up equipped with a Bosch motor. With a price tag of under 2K, I think it represents decent value for the Sparta pedigree.

Indalo
Sparta have also introduced a battery in chain case e-bike for 2013 (the Sparta X2). Its proving popular with townees.
