If you do, make sure that you also update your antivirus

What, On a bike? Sorry but I don't understand.....
It's alright. You only get it the virus on the new bluetooth ones. It's called the Motodemon virus, which infects your controller software. You get "Ya boo sucks to the law" on the display, and it gives maximum power with no speed limit as soon as you pedal.

What I have a minor issue with is going up steep hills in a high power mode and then need to change gear. When I ease off pedaling the motor keeps pushing for half a second or so which then makes crunchy noises from the chain. I wonder if the latest firmware might alter this

The latest updfate does offer smoother power delivery / torque. It also upp's the walk assit a little and refines other small user errors reported.

Give it a go, nothing to loose by keeping it up-to-date.

Is it possible to do a firmware by connecting the 'dial' to the internet so somehow or is it some fancy cabling and software only some traders have? How can you tell if there is new firmware? How do i get it upgraded if there are new upgrades? Classic 2014 (i think!)
model...

If it is like other electro gadgets, you will need to download the firmware, connect to the bike, probably through the intuvia connection interface and then run an update program.. Best visit a bike shop I think! There will be some charge for this, so is it worth it? Probably not, but that depends on the cost v benefits gained.
I recently updated my phones firmware.. Big mistake, bugs by the bucket load,so now I am waiting for the fixes to roll out to make it usable again,
If it aint broke, then dont fix it!

You need the diagnostic kit to update firmware.

Wissy, as David suggests - this has to be done via a dealer. However we do offer a free service for our own eBikes in store. For customers further afield we have spare diagnostics kits that can be posted & long as you have an internet connection, a phone to hand and laptop/computor we can perform this all from the comfort of your own living room.

If your Classic Bosch is working, do not be talked into an update. It may well leave you with a non working classic.

Is there any value in getting the latest firmware flashed on an early 2013 bosch classic?
With phones and other techi stuff I try to keep them up to date, but often there is no obvious benefit.
If it works do not change it. It may then not work.
