Try to keep degreasers away from chainring and bearing. Clean chainring with brush, cloth and maybe plastic pick, shouldn't need degreaser.

I’m just a little cautious about spraying lube and de-greaser around the motor sprocket, I take mine off every time to clean it so I don’t inadvertently spray de-greaser etc. into the motor bearings, OCD I know but the more time I take to look after the motor… hopefully the longer it will last. That said I have no problem taking it apart and replacing the bearings myself, but who want to do that.

Thanks Soundwave and other contributors.

I have been using Muck off dry lube spray, but it looks like the version for damp rather than wet conditions.

Realised today I could not check the chainring or lockring, as I lost my allen key for the crank, looks like an 8mm size.

Also I do not have the tool to remove or tighten the lockring, any idea what it is and where I get one ?

I have lubed chain today so let's see what happens on next ride ?

I've got a genuine Bosch socket for the lockring if you want to save some money...only used a couple of times and as new.

Bike discount sell, tool, spare locking ring nuts(PN20025729) and orings that go with them. Also bearing service kit and grease(PN20034759). NB locking rings do wear where tool engages.

My CX motor failed after almost 3000km (1819 miles). The bearing suddenly got very stiff and it was hard to pedal, if you just remove chain and try to pedal. It was under warranty though so it was sent to Bosch and they sent me a brand new motor. My motor was from 2016 and it got replaced with a slightly newer version. If there are any differencies!?

This is turning out similar to the Kalkhoff Impulse debacle. It was only a couple of months ago that people were recommending Bosch as the most reliable motor. I can see this problem being a real nuisance for anyone that didn’t buy their bike from a local dealer.

The replacement should have seal protector, which you should replace regrease every month if wet may less when dry. See earlier posts for PNs and suppliers.

I've booked my bike in with the local bike shop. It's making a scouring noise sounds like a dry bearing. It's only done 800 miles.
