Fairly sure the dongle is iffy, the only thing I get from moving it is working or not working. Currently not working wherever I put it. Losing patience, will try again when calmer. Any chance of a dodgy magnet?

Actually someone confirm this should work in the stand without and assist, this is how I am testing, not doing a run every half millimeter I move the magnet.[/QUOTE
You can test it in a stand and you will see the speed that it cuts in. Just as if you were on the road.

Hucclecote, Gloucester. If it's not too far. Bring bike and we can swap dongles to fully test both. Mine says 'Sx2 #h48' on the side. Best start conversation if OK and arrangements/full addresses required.

Isn't that the 3.3 badass dongle which is not the same type as the Sx2 although will work on the classic, it won't compare like for like.

99% sure it's a gonner, I'll get around to a longer run, because it did start to work after a few miles before.

The speed depends only on your gearing, but don't forget, it doesn't give you any extra power. It only releases the speed limit. The pulse interval is doubled, so the new speed limit becomes 50km/h.

would it be possible to suggest what sort of back sprocket would be perfect for this sort of thing so i would be able to get better speed out of the limit

mine cuts out at 33 mph tho they will do the older software up to 75 kph but will need to email them first if you want that 1.

you will also need a bigger front sproket for higher top speeds tho it nukes the batt doing it.

i was just wondering with the dongle 3.3 does the battery on your bike go down quite fast i have never used one before i just wanted to know what it was like because i am really interested in buying but i don't really want to make the mistake of buying one and not been able to send it back to them because it would be my fault because their isn't nothing wrong with it all.i just wanted to know how long have you had yours for and was it easy to fit

The Badass dongle works a treat, it is fit and forget.

Fitting, as per the website, is clip-on and only takes a few seconds.

You may have to move the spoke magnet, I didn't need to.

The dongle allows the motor to whirr on above 15.5mph.

You cannot get something for nothing, so if you spend a lot of time above that speed battery consumption will increase.

Higher speed means higher wind resistance.

Leaving dongles aside, you will use more combined leg and battery power cycling at 15mph than you would at 10mph.

The speed/power relationship is not linear and works against you.

I forget the figures, but doubling the speed takes more than double the power.

The problem is that you have a finite amount of power from the motor. in a low gear, there's plenty of torque, but each time you change up a gear, the torque at the wheel goes down. as your speed increases, the resistance to motion increases as well until the torque from the motor is giving the same force as the resistance to motion, which happens on the flat at about 22 to 25 mph depending on how hard you can pedal. If you have a following wind or a downhill, you can go a bit faster. At that speed, changing to a higher gear doesn't increase you speed because your torque will go down, so you'll slow down instead of speed up.

To push a MTB along at 30 mph, you need about 1000w. I would guess that a Bosch motor can sustain about 500w of output power. A fairly fit cyclist can sustain about 200w, so the 700w would give about 25 mph as a sustained speed on the flat with no wind, but you would be pedalling quite hard for that.

In summary, you need gearing that allows you to pedal at a maximum of about 30 mph to get the best speed out of the system. Higher gearing will only help if you have lots of downhills. Take your bike to a good downhill. If you can pedal at 30 mph, your gearing is fine.

Yes there is a huge difference in battery consumption, chews through it much faster.

if you could sustain peddling on the flat at 30mph the batt will be gone in 15 miles.

tho thats like riding a normal bike as fast as you can peddle it.

What power setting riding would you only get 15 miles out of the battery because i normally ride my bosch motor in sport mode and how fast would i be looking to be getting out of sport mode would i get roughly about 25mph in sport mode

turbo, the faster you go the faster it drains the batt so will get more miles in sport but you will still need to peddle it to 30mph so say 20 miles.

in turbo on the flat say 20-25 mph i have got 28 miles from the batt tho it depends on a lot of things and how fit you are and how heavy ect.

i have just done 800 miles with my dongle fitted ;)

you will not regret buying a dongle till you need a new batt

is it hard work going 30mph or can you do it with ease i do need to get about a bit quicker because at the moment it taken a long time to get round around and the extra speed would help me when i am going places sometimes i do a few commutes in a day and it would save me a bit of time
