Have you ever managed decent welds with the fluxed wire for migs on steel?

Not really... lol

Strength of weld is fine but not 'pretty', the quality achievable with mig fluxed wire is no where as good as when using CO2 or better still a argon/co2 mix

The only good things about fluxed is that the welders are dirt cheap & great for using as a spot welder .... but then an arc inverter (not the cheap diy style) can do pretty on almost anything other than rusty cars

That's what I use all the time now, because I'm always running out of gas. Like Dave says, it does the job, but not as easy as gas.
