My MacBook Pro is 11 years old and is still in daily use.

Any Windows laptop bought that long ago will have long since conked out or self-clogged to the point of being useless.

My iPod Classic is also a good few years old and is still going strong.

It did need a new battery - about forty quid from an online fitting service - worth doing because very few new mp3 players have the capacity I need.

Nonsense. Sadly true of many Windows laptops, but far from all; we have a running Dell older than that, and a Lenovo that recently died at 13 or 14 years ... and I've come across several MacBooks that died well before that.
