Just having a look at German bikester.co.uk. Seems not bad deal on ortler montreux bosch bike reduced from £2399 to £1799.The problem is that there is no details on battery range and weight of bike. Also bikester seems to get mixed reviews on customer satisfaction.I wonder if there will be dealers in uk who will have a extensive stock of bosch bikes

Bosch bikes in short supply in 2011 and looks like 2012 not going to be any easier, as on German forum they seem mainly sold out already with advance orders. Supply simply cannot keep up with demand.

You can read up on range over on German Bosch specific forum using auto translator....

me being overweight and unfit always rode on full power and got about 20-25 miles. most on German forum using power range more sparingly seem to get over 50 km, less mountain climbing. The HMI seems very reliable and changes range as you change settings, and to be honest the 2nd setting (speed or sport) offered better range (cant remember exactly) and felt no different in performmance...but I'm a lazy bugger.

I dont know these bikes but when mentioned earlier I had a look and could not find weight either. But I guess this is a 2011 stock clearance exercise to make way for 2012 bikes

So far only Haibike available here from Justebikes. AVE are supposed to be available as well soon but they are expensive bikes as well.

they have the Merida bikes as well with battery in frame...a bit more money but look nicer and better balanced IMO. They also have the Victoria range of bikes but not it seems the Bosch powered Le Mans which is popular in Germany...

having trouble navigating the site as it keeps hanging......But I guess they are a German mail order operation and not based here?

The gents Ortlier is 22.8 kg and ladies 23kg. XT gears, Magura hydraulic brakes and Shwarbe tyres...not bad deal but to heavy for us. advertised range is 80km but probably half that...depending on all the variables

It all depend how you word it eddieo, now if you put:-

me being overweight and unfit always rode on full power and got about 32- 40 km. most on German forum using power range more sparingly seem to get over 31 miles. Doesn't sound half as impressive does it

Just from just reading various threads on German forum I think it will be a repeat of last year and Bosch powered bike thin on the ground. Probably fine if in Europe and you can shop around easily and order from Germany, but like I said rumblings that 2012 bikes selling out already. Obviously should still be bikes around, but I dont think the situation in the UK will be any better in 2012 then 2011...I hope I'm wrong!

The selling out to the limits of production is usualy by the dealer advance orders which they have to place with manufacturers. 50cycles have placed their orders fro next years bikes for example. So they will still be available at dealers, though they might rapidly sell out from there next spring.

Fingers crossed...BUT they said that last year along with other UK retailers and not one of them ended up getting any.

Yes looked on Evans site and due end December....Also googled Scott/Bosch and loads of UK retailers saying they are expecting stock (bit like last year)

what is a bit naughty is that they have just changed Euro price to £ which is a bit rich IMO. I see that Justebikes manages to sell the Haibikes at same price as available in Germany, so why cant everyone else...Rip of UK as per usual:(

from Germany at todays exchange rate: £2110 (plus delivery approx £70)

UK £2499 ( plus delivery)

If you like the Scott E sub 20 Stadler.de have it for !999 euro - just over £1700 ( at todays rate 1.17 + £70 postage)

Elektroräder - Fahrrad-Shop - Zweirad Stadler

I tried an MTB recently with DaaHub kit, and was surprised by how comfortable it was to ride (probably the tyres) so the 2012 (above bike probably 2011) Scott Aspect looks more like what I want......Now will the wife be able to get her leg over it!lol:confused: Dont want a repeat of the KTM fiasco. but finding it impossible to source a suitable step through (thats my excuse anyway)

Eddie....have you looked at the KTM e-shopper bike for your wife....it has the Bosch crank drive combined with a very easy access step through and low ride.

KudosCycles
Hi Dave, the thing is all these swan neck stepthrough bikes are on average 3-4 kg heavier then a cross bar bike...So they fail my 20-21kg requirement, and easy lift onto campervan bike rack requirement as well!

Hailbike have a dropped cross bar ladies bike available in Germany, might have a look....

frustratingly the 2012 version of KTM bike we had is now is a unisex drop cross bar bike:( But want a lighter better spec bike if I can find one. might try and get her on a E MTB:p

Are you commited to a centre crank motor, like the Bosch system or would you consider hub drive?
Dave
KudosCycles
Hi Dave, as I have an extremely nice, lightweight and powerful hub motor bike with the DaaHub kit, I really wanted a different cycling experience, and I am really starting to dislike the noise of a hub motor set up...

If I cant find a suitable bike by next spring may well get a lightweight womans drop cross bar bike with a kit just to keep my wife going.....But this is far from ideal, as I want the crank drive as a daily exercises bike (hub bikes make you lazy!lol)

Have you any thoughts as to introducing a kit?

Hi Eddie, 50cycles have the Pro-connect step through at £1900 weighing 21kg with the long range 18ah battery.
I know that panasonic drive is not your favourite but remember it's for your wife and I bet she'd love it! :)

Well Kenny......its kinda for the wife.... but more about ME as I will be using it most of the time!lol

Your intentions are appreciated, but I couldn't possibly (joke) NOW if they get the Bosch powered Kalkhoff in that may sway me:)
