Hi All,

Re: Bosch Active Line Motor Casing - Creeking

Please can you assist. I have a Raleigh Captus E Bike. It has done less the 200 hundred miles, however when peddling under load, it has an annoying creeking noise from the Bosch motor housing. I don’t think it’s anything to do with the motor, just the outer plastic casing. Is their anything you can suggest to reduce or stop this please? I contacted Bosch and after 3 days, they suggested I take it to a Raleigh Stockist for them to run a diagnostic check. I contacted Raleigh and they suggested I take it to a Bosch Stockist, for them to run a diagnostic check. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s not an electronic or mechanical fault just a creeking from the casing. My only thought would be to treat with silicone spray. Anyone else had a similar problem?

Regards Gary

I would just find a small bike shop that is a Raleigh stockist and just take it in - you might get a better response if you are in there in person

However, if it is just creaking then I agree that it sounds unlikely to be anything a diag test will find - sounds like just a way of finding a way to charge you for something

Personally I would check there are no screws/bolt/whatever loose anywhere first and give everything a good tug and see if you can narrow the creaking down a bit

Good lukc

I haven't directly, but I've seen reports suggesting there are some holding bolts that can need re-tightening.

Had exactly the same problem with mine and it was the mounting bolts behind the engine cover, put a bit of grease on them and tightened them up, no more creaking.

The O/P has not been back since 2020 so it's unlikely we'll find out if he solved his creaking motor unit.

But l would second the comments above, a similar creaking on my Shimano E8000 mid drive motor was due to loose motor mounting bolts.
Tightened (to the correct torque) and the creaking disappeared, never to return.

id get rid of that bike and motor asap! cos when warranty ends and if it goes wrong its £900 for a new motor it cant be serviced.

l would lose more by selling it and buying an alternative bike, than l would by keeping it and budgeting for a replacement motor sometime in the future.

I have a Raleigh Motus and it has been creaking up pedal load for years. The LBS has looked at it and all the bolts etc are fine

I read somewhere that this can be caused by the torque sensor

In any case, on mine it has been there for over 6000 miles and hasn;t got any worse

My BBS01 used to creak after the initial running in period when I first got it. The trouble was twofold, the main bottom bracket nut which holds the motor, needed tightening up more, and also the crank arms needed tightening. Touch wood I've had no more creaking for the last five hundred miles. Loose crank arms can wreck the alloy arm, if neglected. They wiggle on the shaft and wear away the arm where it interfaces with the bottom bracket shaft.

It might also be worthwhile to check that the bolts holding the front chain ring onto the crank spider are properly tight.
