They've had a reputation for slow delivery. However, I ordered three controllers from them last Saturday evening. They arrived today and I didn't get charged any duty, so that makes them approx £15 each. Now I can get the pedal sensor working on my Dahon.

My charger was pretty quick to from an email despatch note it was about two day's, But 5 day's of testing so about a week all in, Not bad really...

Oh, and poxy DHL charged me £7.05 for the previlige, And i chose and paid the extra for Royal Mail, So i would say go for the cheapest, because BMS send it how they like anyway it seams ?...

Great result tho d8veh....

Good result. Also highlights that HMRC can be the cause of delivery delays when they pull batches of items in transit to go through them in detail. I've known past situations when this can cause several days of delay.

My carton looked like it had been opened and re-sealed, so it might have been checked for content, but it didn't have the usual green customs label on, so I guess that BMSBattery told their post office that it was below the value for duty. Maybe that's what it was checked for. I got away with it anyway. Somebody up there must be looking after me.It's worrying to know that so many are being caught now. It was only a year ago that you could get a whole BPM kit for £150 delivered. Now, with duty, it's getting closer to £300 - still not bad for the money though!

Yeah its annoying that only last year you could get the lot for £150.
Now its almost cheaper to get it from UK suppliers.

I've got a small bulk charger on route currently thats cost me £40 so hoping that goes through no worries but will have to wait and see. I also paid a little more for the faster delivery. The tracking is alot better as its going through DHL.

Good result though Dav, seems you keep getting away with it ;-)

That is good service from BMS. Which controllers did you order d8veh? I am interested in changing ours to get the pedal sensor working above 10mph. Well done on the duty. I reckon I hold the record for the biggest hit. £215 for two batteries from Ping. Maybe you will let me know your secret.

I bought 2 KU63s and one KU60. A KU63 will go on my Dahon and the others I'll keep for future projects. I popped a couple of my old spares while I was messing about with my Dahon. One. i accidentally connected the wrong way round and the other was a 24v, which didn't like 49v. One of the capacitors exploded. I'm getting careless in my old age.

Do you reckon the KU63 will work better on my 350w motor than my present KU120 I really miss the pedelec sensor above 10mph. Would it have cruise as well?

Thanks again Dave

KU93 is the one you want.It has cruise, three speed switch and speed limit as well as all the normal things. Works with 36 or 48v IIRC, and is supposed to give 20 amps I think. One I had only gave 14amps, but a bit of shunt soldering got it up to 25A.

I am about to order a couple of controllers from BMSbattery and i have a couple questions. How does the speed switch work? does it just limit the output current rather than cutting power at a certain speed?
And what happens when your controller reaches 14A? does it cut out completely?

Cheers Dave. Two KU93's ordered from BMS Battery. Total cost £21 each. Will just have to wait and see how much duty I have to pay. Guaranteed I won't get off lightly.

Will let you know outcome.

Many thanks again for your help.

I am expecting to get hit with import tax for £230 worth of Tongxin orders :(

Last time I ordered I got hit for tax on £100 worth. Strangely they delivered it and sent me a £12 bill afterwards. I guess depending on the size of the tax bill they hold them or not before you pay ?

Regards

Jerry

Not sure if that is the case Jerry. When I ordered the battery's from Ping and whilst tracking them on line I noticed they were held up at Customs. I phoned the number and was told to send proof of payment. DHL then came back on email to say I had to pay £215 or return the items to Ping.

I wanted the battery's so phoned DHL with credit card at the ready. The guy said you don't have to make an immediate payment and the parcel is marked as clear and will be delivered.

Thought as it was Christmas maybe I was in the clear. Neh Neh no such luck. DHL sent me a bill for payment. I ignored it then got a reminder so I decided to pay the ransom.

Just your luck I suppose.

215£ import duty???? That's huge. How much did you declare initially?

Hi cwah,

It is not about what the buyer declares, it is about the value of the goods imported.
In the case of electric bike parts from China, 6% import duty + 20% VAT are payable to HMRC.
The payment is collected by the shipping agent or parcel delivery company who in turn pay HMRC.

Do you mean they don't care how much you declare? They just consider a value of the goods?

If I was Hurricane, I'd have declared maybe 200£ for the batteries and pay 50£ to the customs.

Hi again cwah,

The buyer does not declare the value of the goods, this is done by the seller.
For small one off orders payment is normally requested by the parcel delivery after you have received the goods.

When ordering a large consignment of goods, VAT, Import Duty, administration, handling and delivery charge payments must be sent to the freight handling company before goods are released.

In the case of container shipments all payments must have been made within 7 days of the ship being unloaded or you will also have to pay for storage.

Hello All,
Just to replicate D8veh's experience.

Ordered BMSbattery Bulk Charger 240w (So not very powerful but small and portable).

Ordered Wednesday 8th Feb
Sent By BMSbattery 9th Feb
Sent By DHL 10th Feb
Landed Germany 11th Feb
Landed East Midlands 12th Feb - Cleared Customs
Birmingham Sorting office 13th Feb

Now Out with a courior to get to me.

Pretty quick turn around of less than a week hopefully. The item is only worth £40 inc delivery but does go to show if you pick a slightly more expensive postal route it tends to get there quicker.

As I recall import duty is payable on the FULL amount, including postage, if the item value is over £18-19 ish

I think the exemption value also reduced recently to £15 ?

It is clear that purchasing direct from China etc is becoming less and less advantageous.

Regards

Jerry

Two KU93 controllers have arrived from BMS Battery. Good turnaround as I only ordered them 8 days ago. No word of duty to pay so looks like I have escaped this time. Works out about £21 each Just need to fit them now. Soldering iron at the ready!
