Update on BMSBattery and my battery issue which I'm certain is a duff BMS.

I got an extremely quick response from them:

Thank you for your business! Are you charging with 900W changer? It will damage the BMS in the battery pack. You need to update the BMS to 30-60A version.
If true, it's frustrating that they'd supply an unsuitable BMS given everything was ordered at the same time. I'm wondering if I made a poor choice with the 900W charger and should have gone for something like the 400W.

I seem to remember something on their website (perhaps before they changed it) that mentioned something about needing the upgraded BMS with that charger. I think that the one downside to ordering stuff from these Chinese suppliers is that their ordering systems are not very clear, so you can't always be sure what you get. To be fair to BMSbattery, they sent me about 5 e-mails asking me what exactly it was that I wanted, even though I thought I had made it absolutely clear. I'm not sure that they weren't trying to change my mind to something they had in stock.

It looks like you only need to get a new BMS then - not as bad as a whole new battery, but you'll have to figure out how to disconnect the old BMS and solder on the new one. You must be frustrated that now you've got to wait for the new BMS. Anyway, at least there's a solution on the horizon - better than not knowing what's wrong!

Absolutely. The worst thing is the frustration of not really knowing where the problem lies and what the next step should be, at least I can get it sorted now. I'm a bit gutted it's going to delay things somewhat, perhaps I'll be lucky and BMSBattery ship it promptly

You guys and also endlessSphere have all been really helpful in getting to the bottom of it.

Not looking forward to the soldering though. Since everything went lead free I find it a bit tricky.

You can still get normal tin/lead solder. I'll send you some, if you can't get it from the shops - just ask. Don't waste your time with the lead-free stuff.

An other question about bms batteries... Are the ones inside the alloy lockable case waterproof?

Here is my experience with BMS Battery:

Delivery time from BMS B has been a little bit slow! 54 days in total from payment taken to parts arriving safely with me. That was with at least 11 emails from me to check on the shipping situation. BMS B gave me the first shipping tracking number on 8th April. I was unable to get any tracking information with the first number, even after several days. More emails about this were always responded to quickly but just kept referring to the same untraceable shipping number.

On the 18th April a second tracking number was given, and after a few days I realised that this also did not show any tracking details. Again several emails all responded to with the second untraceable shipping number.

Several more emails responded to, until on the 11th May I eventually got the email with a tracking number that actually worked. Shipment left Hong Kong on 13th May arrived in the UK 14th May (a weekend) and delivered to me on the 16th!:)

On the plus side, prices are good even with shipping costs from Hong Kong (no import tax). But my feeling is that BMS B really need to get their act together to speed up the order packing and shipping. And they need to be a bit more upfront with the date they actually ship items. It is obvious from my details they did not ship the order when they said twice. The packaging was a bit tatty, and not enough attention paid in stopping the heavy hub from moving in the box, which they made out of old recycled packing materials. Fortunately there was no damage to the contents. I bought the: BMP hub and 7 speed freewheel, 12Fet universal controller, thumb throttle, pedal sensor, a couple of switches and some custom 13G spokes. With shipping, the cost was £140.

I have just bench tested the motor; 36v 350W BPM (Code12) rear drive with halls and 7 speed freewheel weight 4.5Kg (10Lb), using the universal controller, and my Headway 40v 10Ah battery.

No load hub speed and power:

275 RPM 1.3A @ 40V (50W) WOT

In a 26” rim gives 21.25 MPH

I had a rim I bought in ready for the build. So when the hub arrived I started to lace the wheel; that is until I realised that I have been sent a 32H instead of 36H rim! Now I am just waiting for a new rim to arrive (Winstanleys Bikes). I hope I can get the wheel built over the weekend ready to test the setup on my bike next week.

While testing the hub, I noticed that the controller is supplied with auto cruise control enabled (Grey wire loop). This means if you hold the throttle at a constant speed for about 8 seconds, you can then release the throttle, and the motor will continue at the same speed until throttle is moved again, or if the brake cut out is fitted, applying the break will stop the motor.

Hi

Thanks for all your replies

As I said allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery

You do agree in the check out that they will use recycled packaging

You Get what you pay for in service and support but the product will arrive and if you are on a Budget then It will take a bit off time you are Saving Money

They are in a different time zone and speak a different language

BUT £140 for a kit delivered from China WOW ;) and cruse control ( you cant buy one secondhand on Ebay for that price and then defiantly no support )

I spoke to my contact Annie she Apologizes about Delivery times as they are very busy there main business is the USA They do have to wait for there suppliers

Long live the Electric Bike

When BMS arrives post a photo off the old one and the new and I will give you info an fitting you will need a minimum 80 watt soldering Iron Hopefully it will be a direct replacement in which case only 3 wires to solder

Excellent! I've ordered some rosin cored stuff. Also a 100W Draper solder iron (cheap on Amazon if anyone else needs one) as my current iron can't heat the larger joints.

My dad passes on his thanks - he hadn't thought to look on ebay for it either and moans endlessly about the lead free stuff.

I am glad for you shorting hinges out pesjam!

After reading all this reviews I managed to convince ably buying the 48v battery from bms since ezee waiting for a nrpew production...

We ordered 2 weeks ago and still the package is not shipped....:-( I am a bit disappointed for waiting since my brand new jetstream is on alby's workshop ready to undergo the conversion but as frank said this might take long....

Alby is doing his best mailing them all the time to finally dispatch the battery.. The one thing that discourages me though is that even though when we placed the order there where a lot of batteries in stock now seems to be out! I hope this has to do with future orders and mine will be unaffected..

The website always over states the stock count.
Its usually a 6 week waiting time from payment. Which from China is ok.

An they air mail the products to you which isn't cheap. Could always ship by boat but you'd need to add on 12weeks ;-)

I'll just mention that ping offers very good batteries, service and fast delivery for anybody who does not like the sound of dealing withBMS battery. Yes he's more expensive but seems to offer a good service.

My BMSbattery saga continues. After a recommendation from them to change the BMS it actually turns out my new, unused battery pack has a dead cell. Not 'a bit' dead, properly 0.04v dead.

I'm somewhat unimpressed at the moment.
