Blown valve?

Spent last night planning an epic ride to for today. Noticed this morning my rear tyre was a little soft so started to remove the dust cap and it shot out of my hand with the inner tube deflating rapidly. Looks like the valve has blown out of my tube.

So what might have caused this? Is it just a rotten piece of bad luck?

I think the valves just screw in, so if it wasn't tight in the first place, vibration could have caused it to loosen.

Ive never experienced it before, despite having these valves on various bikes in the past. Maybe I bent the internal part last time I inflated the tyre? Im thinking of getting some of those Presta/Schrader adapters to make life easier. The Presta valves do seem temperamental.

Surely that is a schrader valve?
Have you tried screwing the core back in?
Its a Presta valve, but the middle bit blew out as soon as I removed the dust cap, and is probably now half a mile down the road!

It now looks like a Schrader valve, because the middle part is missing.

I've had that loads of times. It can loosen when you take the pump off after pumping up, then come right out with the dust cap. It's nothing to worry about - just screw the valve back in.
