Anyone know the real story?

2.5-mile cycle highway has 'caused traffic chaos and is barely used'

Furious drivers have been left with just one lane to use on parts of the A34 in Birmingham, West Midlands, due to the council realigning the road to incorporate a two-way cycle lane.

That has to be at junctions, given the bus lane presence. If the cycle lane went straight across, vehicles turning left when cyclists were crossing would have to halt across the bus lane.

I think we should be careful not to kick a gift horse in the mouth. Attacking every new scheme because they are far from perfect just plays into the motorist's hands and discourages local authorities from bothering to try, if their efforts are not going to be appreciated.
