what do the more knowledgeable think of claims in this vid for the Sony/BionX battery life? I recently recommended this system to someone on another thread and have now started thinking about it for myself again!:)

It just seems such a great system. for the life of me I don't understand why it appears to be available throughout Europe but not here.

There's a little bit of hype as usual, but it's true the BionX lithium battery is one of the two longest lasting around, the other being the Panasonic system lithium battery.

In both cases the longer life is due in a major part due to the sophisticated software management of those two systems, far more refined than the average e-motor controller, and the sophisticated management extends to the charging as well as the usage.

The reason its so rarely represented here is purely the high price of the system, the British market having been more averse to paying high prices than somne of the mainland European markets. The 36 volt battery in particular was around £500 when others on our UK market were nearer £295. I don't know the current cost of bringing one in, but it's probably over £600 now and could be higher.

It's a very good system though, if one can afford it.

Thanks Flecc, I emailed a couple of companies in Europe re the availability of 350 watt but I also want the thumb throttle model if I go ahead so this may mean ordering from the states/Canada....

I just love the control panel, my eyesight is poor so this panel with back light is what I need as the small computer on my wisper was difficult for me to see. Great news today, my 3 year restricted d licence (diabetes) has been renewed!:)

The forthcoming wisper dapush system has a decent looking panel as well so that may be a better bet (UK legal & support)

I will do some more research/pricing before I make a decision.

Any recommendations for decent hybrid, front suspension donor bikes £600-£900'ish? My objective is a powerful quality e bike under 20kg & £2000

It would be nice if we could easily import these:

Ride+ | Technology | Trek Bikes

:(
It looks a bit like the BionX, as they offer a rear pannier battery with light as well (I prefer the in frame battery) My hard core LBS now stocks Giant E Bikes when a year ago they just laughed at mine, so things are changing and a big name like Trek could always appear here I guess.....But BionX looks a better system:)

These Trek bikes use the BionX system as far as I know...the branding is hidden / renamed, that's all.

Cheers Dan the Trek's are available here...

FX + £1,700.00 Platinum
Valencia + £1,600.00 Black
T80 + £1,800.00 Smooth Silver

These will all be 250 watt I guess, and I wanted to get away from rear battery.

a trek 7200 is about £400? so a 350 watt bike could be built for the same sort of money I guess. Nicks review is great, wonder if he is still around...as I would like to know if he got hit for VAT/import duty etc....

I have some of the parameter codes if any one wants them.
The reason why we don't see more Bionx's bikes about is as Flecc says cost.
A realistic price including VAT should be about £1150 for the basic version rising to £1250 for the lithium battery set on the standard 250w kit the 250w high torque should be between £1400 and £1500, When you can buy even the Hienzmann for less and the Bafang based kits at a steal.

Do remember though that the smaller wheel size has a climb advantage, all small wheel bikes climb better than their larger wheel counterparts.

Why? Cast your mind back to distant memories of physics at school and the subject of lever advantages. :)

Hi, are you sure they use the "High Torque" version? was thinking of the E Cross but Mussels put me of as he considered them poorly equipped.......
I'm not sure but comparing the specs of the e-cross between ktm and bionx pages, the motor looks like the PL-250-HT

In KTM web:
Leistung: 250 Watt nominell.
Drehmoment: 9 Nm. Max. 32 Nm.
Batterie: Lithium Mangan (LIMN), 9,6 Ah, 37 V. Energiekapazität: 355 Wh.
4 Unterstützungsstufen: 35%, 75%, 150% oder 300%

In www.bionx.com:
PL-250 25, 50, 100, 200% 65km
PL-250 HT 35, 75, 150, 300% 80km

PL-250 LiMn - 25.9V / 9.6Ah / 268Wh 2.8 kg
PL-250 HT LiMn - 37V / 10Ah / 355Wh 4.0 kg

PL-250 250 Watts 4.1 kg 7 / 25 Nm
PL-250 HT 250 Watts 4.1 kg 9 / 35 Nm
