Bike Weights...

Just out of interest, has anyone bothered to accurately weigh their bikes, and compare them to the "Official" weight?

Every non kit bike i've weighed is at least 1.5-3kg's heavier than the quoted weight-with and without battery included they are never accurate.

I've tried 2 sets of Digital scales with roughly the same results(0.1/0.2 difference)

It would be nice if the Manufacturers would do it properly,so i didn't have to....

I think companies weigh one and quote that figure, probably the smallest framed, who knows.....but they might have 4 different size models so they wont be spot on. I just upend on bathroom scales so far from accurate, as long as I can lift comfortably and its around 20 kg that side of things OK by me

3 Kg over is a bit naughty though...You want to name and shame?lol

The weight of mine without battery is listed as 33kg. I can lift it off the ground completely but I've never tried that with the 3kg+ battery in it.

Lol...i'm not one to "out" people, but it can be narrowed down to one of the 7 brands we stock-I'm hoping it's just a brochure typeo, and have asked the question of the perpetrator to find out-in fairness i think it may be,as it is very different to their other bikes weights...but it's nice to be able to tell the customers the correct weights without going around the shop weighing them all!

By coincidence, I've noticed this too. However in the case I mentioned here just recently, I am sure it is just a case of forgetting to update a website.

Bike weight is one of my factors to weigh up when purchasing. I regularly have to carry a bike over a railway line, usually via stairs/bridge (at smaller stations the lifts are sometimes too tiny to carry a bike, unless you up-end it). With a solid D-lock on the frame, and a steel-braid security loop, you can add another 1kg onto to true bike weight.

I noticed over the last few days that the Tonaros, the A2B Hybrid and some of the Wispers are listed as pushing 28Kg, which is probably 4Kg too much for me (and I am perfectly able, albeit not a professional weightlifter)!

ebikes are heavy........its because the base bike is heavy........ 20 kg is considered 'light'..... about time some high quality base bikes fitted with the 5kg of electrics and battery started to come to about 15 kg total weight....especially for 2 grand.........
i now have 2 'jerry simon specials' at 15 kg each total.........far superior to any ready made ebikes....and easily ridden as normal bike if battery runs out........
