Wisper Bike suddenly has partial power

Is it the original battery?
Yes, I believe so. I bought the bike second hand a couple of months ago. The person I bought it from had owned it since new. It hadn't been ridden much but the battery had been charged regularly.

I would imagine that the battery needs replacing I'm afraid.

After reading up this morning and feared that would be the case. Will my local Wisper dealer be able to test the battery to confirm it?

Bike Shop Wales in Penarth, who are Wisper dealers tested the battery and it was in good condition. The problem turned out to be the battery connector. They replaced it and all is good now.

I spoke to soon. The bike was good for a few days, the the problem returned, but worse than before.
The bike is back with Bike Shop Wales for further investigation.

Hopefully sorted now. They replaced the other half of the connector, in the battery casing.

A year later. The problem never really went away and has been getting worse in the last week or two.
I am going to try getting access to the controller and checking all the connections and seeing if I can rig up some way of checking the temperature of the controller when it happens. From reading around it sounds as though it could be the controller overheating.

The controller overheats when the motor connector is not in far enough or the connector at the controller end is compromised, so check that first. It was found to be the cause of the other guy's problem with the same symptoms as yours. next thing to check is that you haven't burnt the battery connectors again, which will happen if you take the battery off and reconnect it when it's switched on.

I wedged a probe from a digital thermometer against the controller. The maximum it got up to on my commute this morning was 26.8 centigrade.
This morning I checked some voltages, without the charger connected I was getting 40.3v, with the charger connected and powered on it was 41.9v
I said earlier that the power assistance would cut out now and again, sometimes on short hills, sometimes on the flat. I'm not sure that is the problem now. It seems to be very little assistance with power on 1,2,3 or 4. There is definitely assistance in F although it doesn't feel as great as when I got the bike.
There is a walk mode, operated by the throttle, this is working.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Does yours have the torque sensor or the cadence sensor?

It's a torque sensor. Relatively new. A about 8 months back I thought the symptoms suggested a faulty torque sensor so replaced it with a new one from Wisper and the bike seemed to be ok for a few months. But in the last few weeks it has got worse.

It's probably still a connection issue. If Karey cant resolve it please ask him to call Wisper support. We will sort it out for you. As Saneagal says, please make sure the battery is switched off before installing and removing the battery from your bike.

Is it possible to send the battery back to Wisper to be tested/rebalanced/recycled?

Hi Richard, you are most welcome to return the battery, we will test it for you, it may be repairable. If not we will recycle it first you. All the best, David
