but found also a lot of resistance to my bike (no pun intended) by other trail users.
I joined a 'regular mountain bike' forum in Jan of this year, just to say thanks for some of the info that was posted there. Info that helped me to adjust and repair my dog scooter (headsets, brakes etc). I never even had a bike at that time.

Eventually, I decided to buy a bike and ended up buying an ebike, after reading about them on that very forum.

OMG! I was an instant leper there.

I suffered the slings and arrows and always came back with informed responses to the main forum bullies. Who, after realising they couldn't hound me out of there, put me on 'block'. I didn't mind that. The internet's a free country after all. :)

Although, I've noticed since, that my thread soon became the most viewed in the 'other cycling' discussions area. I also felt that the 'silent majority' there were at least in agreement with a lot of what I was posting regarding ebikes and e-MTB's in particular. They are, after all, a very agreeable art form now.

Many have said that they'd seriously consider one in the future. But some entrenched die-hards still insisted that they would 'slap the weak out of me', given the chance. :D

A lot of regular bikers, 'roadies' (racing bikers) in particular, gain an OCD, no pain, no gain, syndrome when biking and they feel that they need to suffer. Anything less is taking a liberty. You'll never be able to convince those otherwise. Each to their own. Just enjoy them for what they provide to you on a personal level. :)

Anyway, I always find that, energy levels permitting, I can work or relax as much, or as little, as I want with an ebike. With an e-mtb, you can go pretty much anywhere that any bike can go. So, why not! ;)

Without the e-bike, my wife who has Fibromyalgia could not go out on a ride without paying dearly in pain for the next few days - sad to watch the deterioration to someone who was a county badminton player and gymnast. We did a 10 mile cycle a few weeks ago and the joy on her face at being able to get out there with the mutts on a nice day, and we all have a nice ride was worth a million times what I paid for the bike.

I have lost internal organs (including half a lung), and had various joints re-built due to chasing the dream and riding motorcycles semi professionally (even going after the Nurburgring lap record at one stage). I used to play county squash and 10 years ago could easily do a day in the saddle pootling round the Welsh mountains with a group of friends.

I don't smoke. I don't take drugs. I have a glass of wine about once a month with a meal.

Getting out on 2 wheels was my release in life. Without the help of the Bosch CX, my enjoyment would be taken away from me. The e-bike means that I can go out for the day with the usual crowd and have some fun. I don't care if other trail users slate it - my reply to their criticism is that I hope they never become as battered and injured as I am, but if they do and they were told that they would not MTB again, but one of these would mean that they could get out there, then come back and tell me that they would never buy one.

I also think a lot of it is jealously.

This week was very rich in bikes from all over the range:

A Stromer, without it's number plate... naughty man!
A Haibike up in the mountains but on the road
Lots of bikes with brands I had never heard of before, mostly "Dutch" style step through, my guess is 700€ supermarket specials...

Thanks for bringing this thread back to the top AK:cool:, I'd not seen it before.

This summer has seen an explosion of eMTBs around here, I regularly see them out on my rides in all sorts of places. On my night ride yesterday, I stopped to help a guy fix a puncture on his dayglo green Cube FS with Bosch CX, we chatted for a good half hour and was surprised to learn he only lived round the corner from me! Something I have noticed though, many local ebike riders appear to shy away from what they perceive to be a group of "normal" cyclists having a break in the place they had obviously planned to stop too, maybe it's the thought of having to go through the cheating/lazy conversation again;)

Same here LP, (that laugh is standard issue too) although most I've met ask if they can have a go before i can offer:D...and not one of them has had a bad word to say once they've had the experience, in fact many have asked further questions on availability, reliability, costs and may possibly be the other eMTBers I'm seeing out there after realising they don't have to get off and push that bike up the hill ever again:cool:

This can have an unexpected consequence though.

I offered a keen cyclist friend and neighbour a try on mine and off he went.

When he returned ten minutes later he exclaimed:

"What wonderful handlebars!". Not a mention of the e-aspect. :(

It was a Giant Lafree with its very nice comfort bars, and he had always ridden drops.

I agree fully with highside43, I have also mistreated my poor old body, I have bits that hurt constantly and small bits missing :) without my ebike I wouldn'tt be able to do something I absolutely love doing, however being an ex-poacher (I am now too old to run off) i have always been a cheat and class the comment as a "badge of honour".
I see another scott ebike similar to mine regularly where i live, and nearly every day I see an old timer fly past where I work on a whoosh, good on him!!!

Today I saw one of these - moonraker e-crusher r 2018:

Nice looking bit of kit, it was with a KTM and a Haibike.

And I saw a home made wooden chopper style beach cruiser  all wood including the fork. It looked like it had been CNC cut, very clean job, sorry no camera with me.
