Hi

Just wondering where you mostly ride your bikes.? on road/ off road.
I use mine off road mainly through forests/ Cannock chase /coast roads.

Costs me a small fortune in getting to these places but great days out.

Hey Zebb
I enjoy off-road tracks which is handy as there arn't that many on-roads around here. Loads of forestry roads there are which can be great for getting up the hills and thro the woods but I prefer the more slow speed 1st gear stuff on narrower paths with mud and burns and tree roots to negotiate. More physically demanding and great on a crank driven bike.

Hi, Zebb.
Mostly on road - Cheshire lanes seem to suit bikes (apart from one inhabited by the owner of a Bently who drives on whichever bit is in front of him ..) We also do a little very gentle off-roading at Tatton Park - when we're feeling very brave!

Hi Zebb

I use my bike mainly off road exploring various traffic free cycle paths both here and abroad.

But also on road too at times, preferably not in heavy traffic.

I love cycling through forests and along canal tow paths.

I dont need it to commute to work....mainly I suppose because I dont have to go outside to work :)
I dont even use it for shopping as I am close enough to town to walk and therefore can do away with the added stress of making sure it doesnt get stolen whilst unattended.

Also I will admit to being a 'fair weather' cyclist...I prefer the sun on my face whilst enjoying a ride, not sleet/wind/rain or snow

Lynda :)

I am pretty lucky in that I can access many miles of (mostly) dedicated cycle tracks (national Routes) from almost outside my front door. By joining the C2C at Rowlands Gill I can travel up the valley and over the Pennines or go down towards Durham, or to towards Sunderland as far as the coast, or I can go down the valley and then join on to good cycleways going up and down the Tyne - and nearly all of this in some fabulous countryside. OK there are some grotty bits here and there where the cycleway goes through the odd industrial estate or urban area.

I do very little on-road stuff and I wouldn't like to ride in a town regularly. Not at all.

Hello Zebb,

My main usage is my 26 mile round trip work commute which is a circular route through the main mid-somerset towns.
I also travel to visit my Father in his care home which is about a similar distance.
The main benefit is the petrol money saved and I hope my increased fitness.
I find that my stress levels are reduced when I Ebike whereas if I drive I constantly get annoyed by traffic hold-ups, inconsiderate behaviour by other drivers, etc.
If my Bearprint is off road due to technical reasons - if it's broken down again!?! - I get withdrawal symptoms!
Still it was 2 years on 20.10.12 since I had delivery of the Ebike and I have now done over 10,000 miles with it.
I can't help wondering if I had bought a more expensive quality German Ebike how my experience would have been?
Would I have had quite so many expenses in maintaining it, keeping it on the road?

Barry.

My wife and I on Saturday cycled from Pluto to the Sun and back!LOL calling at the pub (at Naburn) for lunch on the way back Cycle the Solar System
(Part of the old east coast railway) Starts at Riccall and finishes at York ,you can go further into York
All tarmac great all weather and if you have kids no roads to cross.
Good parking in Riccall.
Its a scale modal of the solar system. Just 10k each way traveling at 10 times the speed of light on my ezee torq 11 and her kakhoff agattu.
The journey ends before you begin and every time you travel on the track you become a little younger.

I just tootle down the village and into the nearest town a couple of times a week; a round trip of 15 miles. The leccy bike makes it a doddle to nip down the village for milk or bread, etc but the village shops are ruinous for any larger purchases, so I must frequent the supermarket for them.
I occasionally take to an offroad track or two when I'm simply out for a wander - there are a couple of pseudo-wilderness areas (untouched woodland) nearby which aren't frequented by anybody and the access is very good. They're not large, but give an enjoyable isolated feeling on a summer's day, with all the wildlife around.
I am a fair-weather cyclist though; and can see my cycling activity coming nearly to a halt during the winter - tried it last winter and didn't like it at all. My circulation isn't what it was and painful fingers and toes aren't fun.

Nice to hear from you again Baz. What's wrong with your bike? Can it be fixed?

Great to hear where you all go with your bikes, I really enjoy off road, I purchased my first e-bike because of my photography, bikes were good to carry my gear through the forests for catching the wildlife, but only take a bridge camera out now ,as its mainly to go out on the bike.
just wish I had somewhere better to go from home. Hope to hear from more members.

I would say that 80% of my trips are on road, and 20% on NC1. In south Lincolnshire we have miles of lonely back lanes, which I enjoy riding. I ride every day without fail, whatever the weather. That way, after summer ends, one gradually gets acclimatised to the cold. More than half of my riding is "unplugged" on my pushbike. I like to try to find stretches of road I have never ridden before, but that is not easy as I have spent three quarters of my life around here. There are some riverside tracks that are ridable only after a long spell of dry weather, as they are unsurfaced. For shopping , I mainly ride electric.

Oh yes; that too. Now that my old Canon 10D is worthless, it gets thrown into a pannier along with a couple of lenses and off for a wildlife or streetlife trip.

I rode my 26" mostly to the sorting office and back which I guess is like a short commute...about 4-5 miles round-trip... but in the warmer months I like to use it more recreationally and go for long rides in the countryside or to different villages around here in Worcestershire...

Hello d8veh,
As always it's good to have you posting here again.
I recently had to take it back to the Freego dealer who puts it right when it goes wrong now.
It started to cut out intermittently, looks as though the controller they fitted about 3 months ago was the cause.
They replaced it under warranty and it's going well again.
This is the 4th replacement controller all together - it seems to eat them!?! :)
I reckon I am due some trouble free Ebiking now I hope.

Cheers,
Barry.

I bike on the Trans Pennine Trail around Barnsley. It is traffic free (apart from Kids on motor bikes), sometimes muddy (especially this year with the awful weather) and sometimes hard surface. The most annoying things are the gates, put in to stop the motorbikes! And sometimes I bike on quiet lanes. Wherever I go it is for the joy of it, my commute is upstairs to my office at home.

Personally I am always pleased to see photographs of other peoples road trips. Last night I was looking at google maps of my local area, and I noticed a road I had never been down before, and in fact was unaware that it existed. So this morning I decided to take a look. I set out on my pushbike , and rode 4 miles to the village of Sibsey. I turned off the main road into what I had always assumed was a private road, but it is not marked as such, and there is no "No Through Road" sign. For the first mile, the road was narrow, and relatively well surfaced.
Then things deteriorated. The road soon became a farm track, with lots of mud and puddles, and soon I was riding on just soil. I was undecided whether to turn back, or continue. As I continued, the road improved somewhat. I could see the main road about half a mile away, but as I reached it, I could see that my road passed through a farm yard. I got a lecture from a farm worker about riding on private property, so I apologised and told him I was lost. He said that I was not allowed in the yard for Health and Safety Reasons. He said I must go back the way I came. I pretended to start off in that direction, and as soon as his back was turned, I made a sprint for the main road! So that is one route I can cross off my list.
