The reason I went for dedicated bike insurance was because insurance companies do have a habit of trying not to pay out if and whenever they can. I thought having a dedicated bike policy that has liability insurance and personal accident cover was more advantageous and would be far less Likely to try to renage on the policy.

I am sure there are many bike specific companies That are excellent. Just not this one.

Most household insurance also give liability insurance. They just don't cover accidental damage to the bike itself.

...and most will exclude liability insurance while cycling and/or using electric bikes, so many people will need a separate liability insurance.

I have LV home insurance with bike cover, and when I got another bike I gave them a call to increase my cover, and what they said was if you add bike cover to your home insurance this will give you £5k of cover if it's stolen from home and if you want cover away from home the price went up by about £100 and then they will only pay out if you lock the bike to a non removable object, ie if someone just knock you off the bike and runs off with it they won't pay out.
But 5k of cover at home is great for the small extra cost.

The European Union
Now if you are in the Euro zone... oh wait...

Something the EU has done well is insurance, and phone roaming charges, and... sorry I'll go take my pills now! But seriously since insurance competition has been opened up rates have gone down and coverage has gone up. Last time I went to modify my contract they gave me money!!!

And my bike is insured for 1600€ which is great, it only cost me a thousand...
