Hi, I am looking at buying a bh emotion carbon bike and I wondered if it was possible (for a muppet) to fit a throttle to one. Also does anyone know how much a battery upgrade would cost. Cheers, Zack

You may well find, as it's a Panasonic-driven machine, that a throttle is unnecessary. There has been some discussion recently in another thread about the merits of throttle assistance if it might be any help to you.

Hi, the only reason that I wanted a throttle is that I have some difficulties with my energy levels and I wanted the option to just use the battery without peddling at times.

Cheers, Zack

That's about par for the course for a great number of ebike converts Geezee74. Most of us without any throttle facility are happy enough to recover a little energy by freewheeling or stopping for a minute or 10 as necessary. Isn't that what we did on regular bikes when we got tired years ago?

Those people with high energy levels and a full inventory of body parts really don't NEED an ebike. If they decide they want a little assistance though, why not?

Have you actually ridden the BH model you mention? The reason I ask is that there are other bikes, still legal or as near as we can ascertain, with a little more grunt than the Panasonic motor provides. Others here will be able to assist with alternatives, I'm sure, if you're open to persuation. Like many forum members, if low energy levels and/or leg fatigue figure highly, then good hill climbing seems like an obvious requirement. I'll be shouted down if I'm wrong here but I think there are some better hill-climbers around than that particular BH machine.

There are some very heavy guys riding ebikes and they haven't all gone illegal to achieve a decent turn of speed or hill-climbing ability. This sounds rather like I'm trying to put you off the BH and that's not at all my motive; I'd just like to be sure that you've fully explored the other possibilities before committing to the BH model. I have no doubt it's a decent enough ebike but it wouldn't be my first choice at that price point.

Indalo

I have a throttle cycle at the moment and am taking delivery of a my new pedelec shortly.

The throttle is great until you wish to change hand positions for comfort reasons or stick your arm out to indicate. Two reasons why I am swapping to a pedelec.

At the moment, I always pedal so makes no difference and I love the effortless and smooth ride from my partners dutch pedelec.

On the other hand, my brother who is to receive my old throttle bike has a severe case of ankle arthritis.

On good days he can cycle many miles, other days he has to stop mid trip and is left unable to cycle or walk for some hours.

In his instance, I truly hope that my throttle bike will allow him to cycle more and should he have a problem, get home or continue his trip without pedals.

My conclusion of throttles so far is that unless you need to be mobile without pedalling, then a pedelec is the best option.

Hi, what would you recommend as a good hill climber. I want a mountain bike style and like the idea of the battery being where the water bottle would be. Perhaps I should wait for the new kudos Ariba bike.

Cheers, Zack

The Tonaro Bighit gets good reviews as a hill climber.
The battery is at the rear, although I reckon it's well integrated.
Throttle too :)

Just realised I failed to pick up on the word, "carbon" in your original post Geezee. Now that is a rare beast and something of a niche product even within the niche market of electric bikes.

15-16Kgs is incredibly light for any ebike but I doubt very much if the typical ebike rider would be prepared to pay for such a machine. That's not to say you shouldn't! I have to say, it may well be worth waiting for the new Kudos range to hit the shops as they promise a lot of bike for not a lot of money and that's no bad thing, particularly as the owner contributes to this forum and seems to offer good support to owners.
