A lot of people who are not miserable old sods find it quite interesting when a thread goes off topic. Whilst it can be a bit distracting, it can often lead by serendipity to new subjects that people might not have thought of raising in the first place.

Exactly what i was thinking no heavier (with ekit) and cheaper. no reason you should take all the flak :)

Fair enough Bode and I agree ( but not with old sod remarks) but my views on spamming still stand. I just wish you could resist the temptation to dig me out at every opportunity..

Garry, you have lost me!lol

I was thinking the sparta could be a good alternative to a brompton fitted with a e kit would be as light and cheaper. And also for none techies a ready built option. Sorry if not clear last time typing on phone on train journey home.

Another thought how about fitting you daahub to one of those fold in half full size bikes ? Not sure how easy it is to switch between bikes.

OK gotcha now!

If you look at start of thread I mention the AVE MH7

MHYBRID

Review: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search?q=AVE+MH7+electric+bike&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=wk9&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=de&twu=1&u=http://extraenergy.org/main.php?language=de&category=products&subcateg=149&id=25159&usg=ALkJrhh3oZJwpvs4tPo-EepOJBgQUCP4vg

as I have one hub motor bike I would prefer the other to be a crankdrive...This AVE was £3000 but now £2000 partly due to present exchange rates. I can have one, all being well in time for hols. problem is it dont fit under bed in camper with bed in lowered (sleeping) position, and its a bit long but thats not a deal breaker.

so choice is now alpino which will fit under bed no problem...or this Bosch powered bike that I will have to carry on rack. and the whole reason for getting a folder was for ease of use, just taking it out of van and away...I am so paranoid re bike theft from rack I secure the bikes so well, its then a real pain getting one down for short trips while touring.

so will discuss with wife and try the wisper next weekend...But heart set on another Bosch bike. decisions..... decisions...

Eddie, what sort of budget do you want to spend? Our recent Kudos Secret bike was ridden at the Redbridge test day, maybe others could comment on its performance. We tried to get the weight down as low as possible without resorting to costly exotic parts and materials,at 18 KGs. Most of the sales so far have been to motor home users.

Just to add,I rode the ave bike at the NEC show,I thought it was the best bike there but the owner of ave bikes is not really interested in selling bikes. I spoke to ebco at the great Yarmouth show and they seemed to have confidence of getting some product from him. I gave ave an order for 25 Bosch powered bikes, they just ignored my definite order, strange guy to do business with.

Thanks Dave, will have another look. But think I have narrowed it down now to the Alpino which is very well specified and folds well so meets the reasoning behind getting a folder in the first place (more convenience)

Or the Bosch powered AVE that looks terrific, meets my criteria of having both a hub and crankdrive bike, BUT not as practical to carry....

I really don't know what to do...its a head or heart job I'm afraid, made more difficult with AVE now within budget with the £1000 price drop:confused::(

edit due to your 2nd post: AVE seem a bit odd..they totally ignored my email last year but i was not prepared to pay 3k for the bike, but they have dropped the price. I spoke to Richard at Ebco yesterday, they have this bike on demo in Warwick and bikes due middle of June, he was very helpful, getting the tape measure out etc...
Don't know how long the favourable exchange rate will last but it makes a big difference. I see from other post your on Hols, we are heading down to Croatia again for some Island hopping this summer...

Hi Eddie,

Wisper now have dimensioned drawings of their bikes on the website - it should not take too much working out for the approximate folding height.

Have looked at site but cant see measurements....but our 20inch wheel folding Dahon bike fits so this cant be much different...

The drawing is below the bike photo:

Wisper | Electric Bikes | 806Alpino

It is dimensioned from the floor to the lowered seat position as being 800mm.

When rotated downwards in the folded position the seat top is lower but the rear rack is higher, so I assume it would be just slightly lower (750mm) than the 800mm stated.

Thanks...I only have 700mm height under bed. hope someone can give me a definitive measurement to highest point when folded. I would think seat can be removed like on my Dahon, cant be that much higher even with battery:confused::(

looking at folded pic again. what I really need to know is distance from ground to top or rack when bike open, presuming this is highest point IF I can remove seat post....... then I can either wedge it up square, or turn it over.......

For me, the best folding bike is the one I can:
- Bring to the grocery shop anytime when I want to
- Bring inside the bus or tube when the weather is too bad for cycling
- Hide under the restaurant table when I'm with my friends
- And still nice to ride :)

For now, only the brompton is able to achieve that.

I know its a bit of a pain using google translate but you get the chance to find out what is happening elsewhere.....
