Just as a point of interest. I weighed my Freego Eagle battery which is 16ah and was amazed that it was actually 5.5k. would this be a normal weight or are more modern ones lighter. I don't actually need such a big battery so when it is done I will go smaller if I still have the same bike

Batteries are getting smaller and lighter. Your Freego battery may be a LiFePO4, heavier and bulkier than the more usual Li-Ion or Li-po.

the weight of your battery depends on the type of cells inside. Best for weight batteries are usually built with cylindrical 18650 cells.

my 500w one is 2.6kg and 2.5kg for the 400w.

A modern 36v 16Ah battery would weigh about half of that.
