This subject came up a couple of weeks ago, so I ordered a couple of these for testing and I can say they work perfectly with a lovely clear backlit display - just like the photos. I tried it on a 5S lipo pack at 20.8v and the charging socket of my frog battery at 40.7V. No power supply is necessary - Just connect the two wires to the battery + and -. Will work for 12V, 24v, 26V, 36V and 48V batteries. Perfect for monitoring Lipos and checking your voltage sag. Much better than those horrible LEDS.

You'll need to put in in a box like this one (the smallest in the list) because it's open at the back, and then you need a bracket.
General Purpose ABS Enclosure : Plastic Enclosures : Maplin Electronics
Not bad for about a tenner - or less if you have a suitable box (I bet you can find something in the Pound Shop)

Great idea on the enclosures, been racking my brain of what to fit these in, Find myself (with the missus doing the shopping) in morrison's etc looking around at all different/various packaging, Havn't found anything yet tho .....

Awsome timing for me on this one D8veh, Thanks..

That's what I use on my Meanwell psu that I bulk charge my lipo with:-

Did you notice the trim pot to fine tune the accuracy?

So if I ordered this volt meter at what volts would I expect my ping 20ah battery to cut out?

The BMS in the Ping battery is set to cut when any cell reaches 2.1v, but there's not much left when they get down to about 2.7v, so, at that level, you'll get a lot of sag if you use any power. That means that when the meter shows about 32.4v, cut-out is imminent.

No, I didn't, but now I can see two. They're so small that I thought that they were screws. One goes to a triplet of caps in the middle; the other (R27) is in the corner. Which one adjusts?

I can't remember but you'll know which one it is when you turn one :) T0hey are very sensitive btw.

I took mine apart to seal round the display and I wasn't looking what I was doing and put my screwdriver in the one in the corner that looks like a screw and I turned it a lot. The display then read 32.2v when the battery was 42.8v. I tried to adjust it but it was too sensitive, so I had a go at turning the one in the middle. It seems that the one in the middd
le is fine adjustment and the one at the corner is coarse, so I got it back to reading correctly. The other one I bought was giving exactly the same result as my multi-meter. Now all three are the same. Phew!

Are you sure your multimeter is correct? I've just had to re-calibrate mine as it was 3% out which is nearly 2v @ 63v.

I have one of these to calibrate my meters.

I had an ammeter version of these. Really good value, i conformal coated the pcb and tried to weather proof the display but eventually lost segments in the numbers. They don't like outside damp conditions. I expect they are ok if mount in a bag somewhere, mine was on the handlebars.

The actual LCD has no connectors. It makes contact with some what appear to be plastic strips, but I guess there must be conductors in them. It only rests on them and relies on a thin foam block to appy pressure. I suspect that moisture and dust got in and tarnished the contacts. I've seal around my display with butyl and I'm goung to seal the box which should help

If you have throttle LEDs, you can splice into the throttle cable at your steering head so that you don't have to run wires all the way back to the battery. That'll make it come on when you switch on. Use the black throttle wire for the 0v and then you can test the other wire with a pin connected to the meter red wire to find the other one if you don't know which one it is.

No led's :( Was just going to run wires direct from the battery ?, But reading your idea is genius !!!, But no led's for me tho, I don't even know if my controller has this option either (single voltage wire) would be nice and a cleaner install, I'll have a look...

This is how mine turned out in the end, Would of liked it totaly in the enclosure for total water proofness but started to loose the display every now and again because i keeped taking it apart, Lol once i figured out how to get the display up again, I mounted it!!!...

Just got to mount it too the bike (easy bracket i have modded from an old light) and find somwhere to plug it in!!... Thanks Dave!!!!
