I'd like to remove the battery from my bike and store it in my house during winter (bike in garage) but I remember some literature saying I shouldn't do that as there is a risk of fire. How likely is that and if I do keep it inside, can anyone recommend a safe storage box to keep it in? What do others do for batteries that will not be used in winter?

I’ve been keeping my battery‘s in the house since i started Ebiking back in 2008 and I’ve not burned my house down 
For charging, I use a countdown timer so the battery/charger hasn’t got mains voltage going to it any longer than necessary.
