Battery question - Pendleton Somerby

How do you no when Pendleton ebike is fully charged
when i plug mine in all green lights come on then it goes to just one green light

The charger has a light on it which is red when charging and turns to green when fully charged.

....................... At the moment I can't seem to get it (the battery) off the bike. I have a key, but can't work out which is locked and which is open, battery seems solidly fixed in either position and I'm scared to force it in case I do damage. ...............

On my ePendleton, the battery key is in the unlock position when turned against the spring action of the lock. You need to hold the key in that position whilst firmly pulling the battery case rear-ward.

As said above, this does require a bit of a tug to release the battery

Your problem may be with the battery itself not taking a charge. If the bike is still under warranty, hopefully Halfords will sort it out for you.

They probably will do at their leisure, from what we see on here the service isn't the fastest.

It's illegal for a bike shop to sell you an electric bike without a manual that shows how to charge it. Go back to Halfords and demand your manual. If they won't give you one, inform Trading Standards.

Your charger probably isn't broken. Most likely a fuse has blown. You'd need to test with a meter to find where the disconnection is.

Can I ask if anyone has had an issue with the control unit lights flashing? Low/high flashing and it’s not working. I’ve read on here some where about it being a brake level warning. I’ve only been out on it once and have not touched the brakes other than using them normally.

There are switches built into the left and right hand brake levers. If the levers are not sitting properly/ not in normal position, those warning lights combination flash. The switches/wiring can also stick/go faulty.
The good news is that the bike can work without them.
First, visually check (or get someone to check) the brake levers/cables for damage/irregularity. If that doesn't work, you can trace the electrical cable that goes from the brake lever to a small round thin connector usually below the handlebars and disconnect (by carefully pulling apart) one at a time and recheck.

Thankyou for this, I moved the wires a bit and found the right one stopped the lights flashing but it still didn’t work so I’ve disconnected both of them and it is now working, at least now I can point out to Halfords the issue of the loose connection on that side. Or is an easy fix to do ourselves and save the trip up there?

Those break cut off switches are a legal requirement (I think) on all many new shop-sold bikes but some people think that they are not necessary, especially on a bike with no throttle. You could probably get one of the brake levers going as I doubt if both levers would go faulty at the same time. Anyhow, all of this seems to leave you with four options as far as I can see.
1 If bike under warranty, go back to Halfords. However, it could be the case that fault is caused by damage from user, so Halfords may charge so discuss this first.
2 The second option is to do nothing and just keep using bike as its working now.
3 The third option is to try dismantle and repair. There may be a small plunger and spring involved and tricky soldering and patching.
4 The fourth option is to buy replacement levers with (I think) the two wire red plug type mechanical switches. You need to take off the hand grips to do this. (which can be tedious and without marking them can be tricky.)

Brake cut-offs are not a legal requirement. Sellers have some obligations for the bikes they sell regarding how quickly the motor must shut off after stopping pedalling. Many bikes meet that requirement without brake switches.

Halfords now link the Pendleton Somerby Owners manuals on their website... there's a few battery operational quirks detailed in the first of these, and general bike care, adjustment and maintenance in the second:

These latest Somerby bikes now appear to be made by Pony Bike in Czech Republic, and the batteries branded "Battle". So that's all changed since I last looked.

Thankyou for your help it’s working just fine so I’ll leave it without the front brake connected. I have paid Halfords for their service package and they’ve told me that all the cables would be replaced at the yearly service so I’ll wait for them to sort it then. Just glad it’s working again, it’s a hassle to take it back to Halfords.

If you look from underneath, you can see the lock working. there's a round peg (approx 10mm dia) that goes into a round hole when locked.You can see it go up and down when you work the key. Obviously, when it's up (not in the hole), it's unlocked so you can remove the battery, which sometimes takes a bit of effort to shift.

You don't need to remove it for charging.

Does anyone know why the key has to stay in when locked oneas hoping that I could leave the bike when I pop into a shop but anyone can turn the key to unlock the battery I was hoping that the key would disable the battery energy a bit like a car
