Hi All
I've just ordered an Oxygen s-cross hybrid bike 13ah. It will be used for my 32 mile round trip commute at least twice a week. My decision to buy an ebike was partly enjoyment/lifestyle choice and partly financial. My main concern is how I keep that battery going strong as long as possible to make this a financially savvy choice and I'm hoping for any tips to get the most out of the battery and also, any advice to manage my expectations on just how long that battery will last for. The most pressing question however is will charging the battery when it's only half empty damage the battery long term? As I may have the scenario with my commute that means I risk running out of juice if I wait to charge the battery until it's nearly completely flat.

2nd question is around keeping the bike clean and free from dirt. Some of my commute is off road, not dirt tracks, but cycle paths that could be more wet or muddy than the road. Is it safe to simply hose down these bikes with the battery removed? Or does one need to clean these bikes more carefully?

Many thanks
Tim

Charge the battery when you want or need, no memory in Lithium cells.

Do not leave it flat, do not leave it out in the frost.

Use it, it is a professional hard working bit of kit.

I have had my bike for 6 months and am yet to wash it, there are no ebike Police. Do not hose it down, it is an electric bike, use a sponge and bucket if you must.

Ride it, charge it and ride it again.

The battery use depends on how much assistance you use, on Max it will run down the quickest on low it will probably go four times longer.

Secret is ride the bike and find out, 30 miles easy on low middle assistance.

Hi the best way to treat Li ion batteries is to keep them charged up . There is less wear inside the battery than if it is allowed to go flat. The advice about letting the battery go flat was correct when the chemistry was Ni cad and of limited value when the technology had moved to Ni - meH but is incorrect for Li ion.
Cleaning . .. there might be a value in smearing vasaline around the battery terminals and to use an ordinary sponge and bucket. The pressure from a hose , particularly power washers could drive water into the controller and generate corrosion in the future. Of course you will not notice damage from corrosion for months
