As BMI says, LiFePO4 (lithium-iron-phosphate) batteries are aleady capable of at least 1000 charges, with the longer life potentials he mentions, but none of the main e-bike manufacturers have adopted them yet for various reasons, despite trying them at various times for well over two years now.
At least two of the e-bike manufacturers have found that production ones are not yet reliable enough after suffering many failures in testing. There's also the small problem that the cells are a bit larger and heavier for a given capacity than the Li-ion cells currently used, meaning either a smaller battery in existing cases or new larger battery cases.
These longer lived LiFePO4 batteries are available from some individual suppliers and some members have used Li Ping ones which have proved ok to date at up to one year old, but of course these have to be mounted in some way on the carrier or elsewhere and a case made for them.
