Found fuse under top cover of battery. Odd thing is , it was not blown but when I put it back in it's slot after seeing that it was not blown the battery came to life. I appears that removing it and reinserting reset something?? Can this be correct?
You had a connection fault somewhere. Now it's fixed - for now at least. If it comes back, it should be easy to track down.

It may have just been a bad fuse contact.
At least it was nothing major.

Yes. I'm going to keep an eye on it. Maybe you could advise me on another recurring issue. I had a 10 speed Shimano when I was a kid (I'm 59) and this bike has a 7 speed Shimano altus that began misbehaving a couple of weeks ago. I'll be riding along and all of a sudden it's as if chain had come off but it hasn't. I can climb off the bike and turn pedals by hand and it's like the casette isn't engaging the wheel hub. Any thoughts?

It could be your freewheel pawls sticking or slipping. The only thing you can do is try and get some 3in One oil in there. The pawls are at the back, so see if you can get some oil in there.
