My turn to ask a techy Q.
When I build my diy weld less battery with the kit from India, I want to use my exsisting 2a chargers with the 2.1/2.5 x 5.5 mm DC charge plugs. The DC sockets/plugs I see for sale are all it seems 12v and mostly 2/3a rated are they ok to use ? Will they/do they handle the 42v dc max charge voltage or do I need to use something else with 36/42v rating ?

Something I can also ask Jimmy next week as my 50C battery should be ready for collection.

Would these kits not start to oxodise/corrode at the point of contact, like what we see on a car battery?

As opposed to direct welds as a means of current transfer?

Most of the current isn't transmitted through the welds, which are really tiny contact points, but rather through the contact of the whole width of the nickel strip with the end of the battery. The welds are there to stop the metal strip from moving about.

Sorry I answered the off topic post, my bad!

Most home built batteries I have seen online use XT-60 charging sockets and Anderson output sockets. You could probably even get away with an XT-30 as you are only sending 2 Amps to the battery (but I find the connection isn't as tight). Using an existing charger wire I would create a Y splice so that I had both types of charging plug available for different types of battery.

The problem is to find the right socket. You have to get the diameter of the pin correct as well as the O/D., then you need the right mounting. Most are for PCB mount.

These might be worth a punt at 99p. You can maybe make an adapter lead to any other connector on the battery.

Thanks AK & d8veh.
I could go with a Y lead but prefer to stick with the charger as it is and just use another socket I can hot glue to the pack.
2.1 X 5.5 much the same as in d8veh's link are the ones I've been looking at as my pin out is not 2.5mm.
