Its time for my ageing Turnigy Multistar 8000mah lipo batteries to get a new housing/enclosure as the saddle bag that i have been using is falling apart after 2 years of constant use and i'm going to be doing more miles from april.

I have 3 cells in the packs that are considerably lower capacity than the rest so have ordered a new 4s 8000mah lipo from Hobbyking and will be disassembling them and replacing cells next week and checking the general health of the pack as a whole.

So, can anyone suggest a neat and tidy enclosure or mounting system for 2 x 6s 8000mah and 4 x 4s 8000mah lipos along with the bms board that i can mount somewhere on my full suspension bike ?

I've been doing some google searching and not come up wit many suppliers, i like the dolphin case style, but it would have to be short to fit on my frame, but also like the idea of a seat tube type mount and enclosure, soft bag style or hard plastic case

Thanks

I use an idea off D8veh, made from a football boot bag held onto a simple rear rack with a piece of plywood or mdf inside for a base and a velcro strap around it all inside to keep them secure.

I use this one which is great because of the double zip opening the whole top.

On something similar to this cheap rear rack.

Waterproofed with a small rucksack bag cover.

I would be interested to see the saddle bag your using.

Good idea, except that my bike is full suspension so those type of racks dont fit and i do have quite a large suspension movement on my bike !

I have attached a couple of pictures so you can see what i'm currently using and what my bike looks like, the saddle bag is made by iberital 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg

The bag zips around the bottom. You can find them on Ebay (football boot bags). Get a cantilever rack, chuck the plastic part, cut a piece of 2mm plywood to the shape of the inside of the bag and bolt it to the cantilever:

Here is one with the cover off. The cover is hanging down the other side where you can't see it. it zips on three sides:

Home made rack out of alloy tube for a FS bike. It's attached to the rear sub-frame. The bag/plywood is bolted through the tubes.

Now that looks very interesting, hadnt thought of mounting it on the unsprung part of the rear triangle, my batteries weigh in at 4.4kg , do you think it can handle that sort of weight ?

Its not quite the stealthy/streamlined look i was hoping for, but it looks like a very sensible solution

I have an aluminium battery box for sale which can take up to 6 or is it 8? (can't remember without checking) x turnigy 5000mah 6s. So it can take either 15Amp hrs or 20 @ 52 volts; will have to check. The controller can mount on lid .... it is designed for a full suspension bike.

Thanks for the offer, but i have already bought a rear rack that bolts onto just the seatpost, and i'm currently crafting (bodging!!) a waterproof lunchbox with all the batteries and the bms board and packing it all tightly so it doesnt move, then its going into a shoe bag that will then get strapped to the rear rack, so very similar to Dave's idea, just a little bit smaller (I think) and if i get caught out in the rain, then when the bag gets soaked, the batteries in their lunchbox will stay completely dry !

I would be very wary of using this, I used the same method of mounting my battery (4 Kilo) on my suspension bike and a few months of use cracked the frame just below the quick release bracket and above the weld on the seat tube.
It might help to use an extra long seat post which goes well down into the seat tube, though I did and thought that would make it OK but it still broke the frame.
There's a few threads on this if you search.
I would use the Thule rack that Kinninvie linked to if I was doing it again, a bit expensive but less likely to damage your frame.
Dave.

Yes. Aways use a long (400 mm) seat-pin if you have a cantilever rack. Not necessary on a steel frame.

Thats a pain !, it looked like a neat and tidy solution but i dont want to wreck my frame, I bought myself a lathe just before christmas which has milling capabilities, so this might be the ideal problem for me to tackle with it !

Lol !, its only one of those mini lathes from Axminster power tools based on the Sieg C2A but it came with the dro kit and all the optional extras you can buy for it for milling so was a bargain !
