Bar-end mirror on a Kalkhoff Agattu? How 'tis done?

I want to fit a Zéfal Doobak bar-end mirror to my Agattu. I've cut quite a neat hole in the end of the grip, but am up against two problems. One is that the ID of the bars seems to be a tad less than the mirror is intended for, and the other is down to the vast amount of material on the very end of the grip.

Because of that thickness of plasticy rubbery stiff, the expanding grippy part of the mirror mounting ends up half in the bar end and half in the grip end, which isn't a great deal of use. Cutting the excess off the end of the grip isn't an option because it's narrow enough as it is.

Is there a logical way forward here that hasn't occurred to me yet, or do I just try to find a mirror on a stem I can live with which clamps onto the bars the old fashioned way?

I have the same mirror on my Agattu and as i remember it was a bit of a pain getting it set up perfectly, it gripped in the bar fine when pushed in as far as it would go. Make sure you have the tightening screw started before you push it in, you will not get it to start once the mirror is in and its not easy to remove without the screw in. It is a tight fit but it does go.
Superb mirror, if i ever break mine i will not be looking for any other make to replace it

Mirrors clamping to the bar with a fairly long arm tend to shake too much to be usable.

Some bar end mirrors are designed for drop handlebars and have larger diameter inserts like this Cateye BM300G, no good for your Kalkhoff, so yours may be one of these.

The correct one of those is the BM500G which as you see has a longer thinner insert.

Thanks once again gentlemen. I guess I need to try the Zéfal one again, preferably when my hands aren't frozen, failing which buy yet another Cateye product ...

BTW Biged, I agree about the Doobak - great bit of kit, even though it's a PITA trying to find right-hand ones.

I mounted like this on my PCS, not sure if it uses the same bars.

I concur with NRG's choice of mirror. Having looked long and hard at the various types available, in the end I settled for the Mirrycle for my Dutch-style bars.

My main reasons for choosing it were the fact that it was well regarded by various forum contributors and its construction is better than many others I looked at. It really is a nice piece of kit engineered to a higher standard than many and I consider it the best addition I have made to my bike. Any other good quality mirror which is vibration free would do equally well, I am sure.

Just cropped this out of a much larger picture taken in France, this is my mirror fitted, looks good i think you will agree. What i particularly like about it is that because of its light weight you get NO mirror shake, plus it folds back to get through gates and when traveling on my roof rack (to France for instance) :)

I managed to fit a Cateye BM300 to my Wisper. I had to turn the fitting down on a lathe and shim the swivel join a little to stop it moving around on rough roads. I like it as it is very discreet and I wasn't going to let a little thing like an incorrect fitting stopping me from using the product I liked the look of :)

Ditto on one of my bikes, it's just possible to remove enough material without compromising it. Seen on this pic of the handlebar equipment.

Well, I am pleased to announce that The Fitting Of The Mirror has been successfully accomplished. All it took was bringing the bike into a nice warm kitchen, a bit of faffing and a sharp whack with a hammer.

Flecc, what's that interesting-looing device dangling under your bars on the left? Is that some fearsome horn thing?

Yes, it's an Airzound horn, fed from a bottle size pressure tank. It's the loudest one sold for bikes, the sound level adjustable. Try the sample sound on this page. The bell as well is for joint-use paths to avoid giving pedestrians heart attacks. :)

The bar ends are not for the usual purpose, they're there to protect all the handlebar gubbins when the bike is turned upside down on rough surfaces for punctures etc.

Whist on the handlebars, can anyone tell me if the Kalkhoff pedelect read in kph or mph. Can the display be switched between both? Thank you

Mine came in KPH with no way to switch to MPH but if you multiply the wheel circumference by 0.62 and set the result in the computer you'll get the readout in MPH ;)

I got a doobak mirror too and find the image steady with a good view of the road behind. I wouldn't use any other kind now.
