Hi.
Does anyone know if a 36v bafang 250 rear hub drive could be replaced with the 500w or 750w bafang hub. Rather than changing whole wheel etc.

The 500w will likely exchange though unless you uprate the controller and battery the power will not be different.

You don't normally need to change motors to get more power. The 250w label is just for legal compliance. the same motor is probably sold in other places as 200w or 500w. They can handle a significant amount of power above 250w. I've run then as high as 1200w without problems, though a bit of understanding about how they work helps in that situation because you can destroy a motor even at 250w if you don't treat it correctly.

Show us what you have so we can guide you how to get what you want.

That's a code 10, which is quite fast. It equates to 315 rpm at 36v, which is 23 mph in a 26" wheel. Can you confirm which size wheel its in and show a photo of the whole motor from both sides?

It's on a 36v 17ah battery at the mo. But I do have a 48v 15ah battery, from another bike. I dont want loads of speed, just hate showing down on the hills. If I could stay at 20-23 mph I'd be happy.

Those fatbike motors can handle a lot more power. At 36v, you could get 20 to 21 mph cruising. For more power, you just need more amps. Your amps limit depends on the BMS in the battery and what cells it uses. Do you have any specification for the battery?

What is written on the motor controller and what type is it? Is it integrated in the battery holder or an aluminium box sitting in a compartment?

The battery is 36v 17ah Samsung's
The controller is in the battery compartment. Liushi 17ah
Handlebar display is c200 . Though it's got c290 on it. I've upped the max speed to 25, but it only really gets to 20-22 .
But it's a nice solid feel when riding, feels ok at 44mph downhill with the wind behind me.. pmsl

You're not really giving enough relevant info. What are you trying to achieve? Please show a picture of your battery and controller.

I wanted to know, if the 500w or 750w could be interchangeable into the hub of a 250w bafang. If needed I do have a 48v 15ah battery, I can get another controller if required.
The controller is inside my battery , it's a liushi 17ah.

I was going to upgrade controller and battery, was just wondering if I could've just upgraded the hub motor, looks like I'll replace the whole wheel then.
Cheers.

You're not getting it. The power is supplied by the battery and regulated by the controller. The motor is just a transducer. It can't change the amount of power you get. It only needs to be able to deal with the power given by the controller. If you want more power, you need to change the controller, but there's not much point in that if the battery can't supply it with more power. The last thing you need to change is the motor or wheel.

I changed my Controller from a 22 + 1A as it
was restricted to 14 Amp I purchased a 25 +1A from the USA unrestricted and replaced the display to a KD718 I have loads more power from my 250 w motor The Controller was plug n play.
