Bafang Max Drive bikes

Thanks cyclebuddcyclebuddy and Ultrafunkula, I notice that they trade as "East London Bike Company Limited".

Is the premises operating as a retail shop, or just a mail order operation.

Work takes me down to London on occasion, so no problem for me getting there as I am often hold up in a hotel for a couple of nights or so.

I do like the idea of the CD Max Drive, and the cost of a back up or spare battery compared to that of Bosch or Yamaha makes it a complete no brainer to me.

I've given up on the WebSite now, but taken the plunge and ordered from Ebay instead - it may cost a few extra pounds but seems a "safer" option in terms of their current processes.

I'm looking forward to giving this bike a try - i'm just hoping it doesn't turn me into a lunatic who goes around screaming "electric POWer" like the guy on the youtube videos!

I'll try and post up a review when I get it, along with a comparison with my other e-bikes (Carrera Crossfire-e and Kudos Tornado).

When you get the bike assembly is easy enough you'll probably have to tweak the brake set up and gear set up to get them spot on, so no binding or jumping gear as not fantastically set from factory, also get a cable tie to clip the speedo sensor cable to the frame where it comes out of the bottom bracket as it runs real close to the tyre on its route to sensor, factory clip is a little too far along frame to keep it away.

- Chain wheel 36T (recommended), 38T (optional), 42T (optional)

They are being careful to not put too much strain on the motor, from experience with the GSM I would say that a twin chainring 44-32 setup might be the best compromise for hilly terrain (I am currently running 42-32). Special tool to put the chainwheel clip on, necessary or not? I like the different chainline options, very well thought out and you can use a Chainglider (BTW Chainglider is now available in 38, 42, 44 and 48 teeth versions).

optional bluetooth module - yes please, I want one of those!

43 V "rated voltage" as a option. We need a volunteer to try with 12 S LiPo - 44.4 V nominative

You guys need to ditch the cable ties and opt for double sided velcro for softer securing of cables to prevent pinch damage. Buy it cheaper in wide strips and cut with scissors to 8 or 10mm strips.

I saw that at the supermarket the other day and it is on my shopping list for after payday What colour do you recommend, fluorescent green?

What kind of speeds were you getting out of the 38t, 44t, and now the 48t Ultrafunkula? I haven't done enough mileage on mine yet to decide whether to mod for faster road speed, or keep this bike for my casual Sunday tow-path/bridleway/back lane rides. Please keep us up-to-date on a front changer.

Speeds not too dissimilar, 44t made easy cruise at 18 to 20mph than the 38t,48t has made 25mph as in pedals aren't going like bees wings you have to put some effort to get it there but once there you can ease off a little,it's not like earlier pedal assists that I have ridden with the cadence sensor, turn and it goes,the torque sensor makes riding it different , as in like normal bike, but you've automatically been given powerful legs, riding prone I would think will make big difference to top end speeds, on a slight down gradient I've seen 35mph but I was upright which is close to the 60kmh setting maximum,48v would make a difference so that's on the cards when I get paid, I'd like to take it off-road (Cannock Chase) to see how the torque really makes the bike shine as other reports state,but only a short test done on road as weather is "Orrible"

FG is great if it floats your boat though may be useful for those with gawdy coloured Bosch/Yamaha bikes. .

A guy on endless sphere has been into the factory setting with that software with the max drive.

I really do like the look of these Greenwsy max drive E-bikes. Seems like a bargain of a price for the spec.
Are the markings of max power rating etc. stamped on the motor showing that of 350W? Thanks in advance to owners who may be able to advise.

The second one is for derailleur bikes and the first for hub gears and sliding dropout.

Works on 3 mm wide single chainring i.e. most Shimano and Truvativ steel ones

Ultrafunkula,
If planning on reprogramming the max drive rather then just jumping to max amps, it would be prudent to look at other settings first.
The main 3 setting to look at are current and speed limit settings under ' Basic ' tab.
'PAS' tab. Start current needs looking at and needs to be low % value below 30 for better longevity for the controller, enables a softer start from stand still before max amps are applied.
And ,
Keep current another one to look at with pas low cadence it affects little and you get max current, though at higher pas cadence levels it reduces current to the set % level. If set low 20/30% expect a good work out and better battery range but not very good for hill climbing.

I ran for a while at 18 Amps x 37 V and frankly now I am at a smidgen over 15 Amps and there isn't much difference in daily use. Yes you will be a bit faster off the line with higher current.

I'd fear tanking it up to 20A paired with 48V battery could over egg out slightly to the detriment of lifespan. Also, are Greenway happy to warranty the motor etc. If these changes are made, or are you not bothered about that for the experimental fun you'll be having?

Please can somebody confirm the motor power ratings stamped on these motors? It's just that if the 350W continuous rating is detailed (as it needs to be by law) on the motor, it puts it outside the UK's EAPC regs for road use.

Agree here too, go to 16amps first and see how it performs and then incrementally up to 18.
Not forgetting with a BBS its easy to swap over the controller you fry it, Max drive are their controllers available to buy and how easy to replace ?

So what is actually stamped on these Greenway bike's Max drive motors? i.e. 33.250 or 33.350 or 33.250/350?
A photo from an owner would be great if possible please?
