He isn’t trying to be rude. He is actually trying to help.

Bicycle maintenance is far more complicated than you think and does require mechanical skills and understanding. As well as owning and knowing how to use some special tools.

As Nealth suggested, watch plenty of YouTube videos to try and gain some understanding of basic bicycle maintenance.

Fitting a motor to your bicycle is not easy and even people who know what they are doing have trouble with some installations.

They don’t always bolt together easily and some times getting chain lines correctly aligned tasks even experienced people. If you have a 73mm bottom bracket as opposed to 68mm do you know how to fit spacers to adjust for the offset for example?

Also if you don’t know how to use a bottom bracket tool, crank tool, chain tool, freehub tool or cassette tool then you stand no chance of being able to fit a motor to your bike.

So best to learn the basics first.

We aren't rude ( well somtimes if we really put our minds to it ) but are truthful, we have a natural gut feeling to responding to users who are more then green behind the ears.
Most who attempt usually have a practical idea of how things work and how to carry the jobs out, specific tools are needed and often a bike stand is needed .
I would hate to see you waste several hundred £££'s and make a complete hash of your bike, better to take the bike to a pro to get it fitted full stop. Woosh bikes is one such pro in mind.

Talk to Halfords first before buying anything. Halfords hourly rate is quite high.

Also create a new post on this forum to see if there are any bike mechanics local to you who would be interested in either fitting or better still supply and fit one for you.

how come there quite professional i bought my first bike from them
they wont fit anything like that but they will sell you a over priced shite bike and when it goes wrong the monkeys are set loose.

but tbh if you want a kit like this then watch you tube vids because if you cant even index the gears then rolling up to any lbs will mean they wont touch anything on the bike because they dont want the liability and getting sued for it as the bike is not road legal.

plus if you did find a place it adds up fast in labour costs alone i think evens bikes charge £1 per min.

Halfords are not going to fit an illegal ebik kit that they don't sell to your bike, and i doubt that they know how anyway.

They'd be happy to adjust your gears for you, but you'd have to adjust them again if you fit the motor.

These are the steps to fit a BBS** kit
1. Remove the cranks (special tool required).
2. Remove the bottom bracket (special tool required).
3. Mount the motor (special tool required).
4. Assemble the cranks
5. Check and adjust the chain-line
6. Cut and join the chain to the right length (special tool required).
7. Swap over the brake levers
8. Mount the LCD and throttle. Normally, you have to remove everything from the handlebars and reassemble.
9. Mount the battery. Almost certainly requires drilling the frame and fitting one or more riv-nuts.
10. Figure out the best routing for the wiring and tie it all down.
11. Adjust the settings in the LCD.

Those guys that show how to do it on Youtube normally don't show some important steps in their videos or they miss them out when they fit the motor, and they nearly always choose the easiest bike to convert. When you do it, you find out that your BB is blocked by welds and needs lots of filing, the bottle fixing holes don't line up with your battery, the chainwheel ends up miles out of line with the cassette and you have weird shaped shifters that leave you nowhere to fit the throttle. They never show any of that in their videos.

All the bikes I fitted a mid drive to there has always been some over weld to file off inside the BB.

Youtubers do miss out important details. This one (this was my only guide to fitting, as I hadn't discovered this forum then) for instance doesn't mention that the bottom bracket can be extremely difficult to remove (took me two hours of hammering, the last 12 minutes while it was held over a vertical metal spike), and because the video is sped up, it isn't clear which way he's unscrewing it. Luckily the wiring loom connectors only fit in one permutation.
