Bafang bbs01 help please

Hello lovely people,

I have a bafang bbs01 middrive I think, I think it's a 500w I can't remember as was a few years ago I had it installed.

Anyway done about 500 miles, quite heavy duty to be fair. It's been stored a year and now I have moved using it again.

But it sounds like a box of spanners! Really noisey in gear 1 and 2 escpically, Any ideas?

Sometimes the gears slip, I took it to the shop here but he isn't familiar with my system. We are in Gibraltar for 2 years, so its very hilly and I need it espically gears 1 to 3.

I also need the crank thingy as all as only half the thread is left according the bike shop who put my peddle back on.

Any help would be good, I can order parts from the UK of what needs replacing and well give it a go? Or take parts in and hope the cycle shop can do it? They have electric bikes just not bafang

It might just be you need some oil on your chain. When they get rusty like yours is they get stiff and don't travel around the sprockets smoothly.

Thanks I will give that a go, everything just rusts here in gib it's such a pain. It sounds like a grinding noise. When I cycle home I will video it to help. But I will.whizz into town and get some oil tomorrow.

Sounds like you need a new crank arm, the threads are likely to get damaged if the pedals come loose. Explain to your bike shop that they are the same as any tapered crank arm and are removed in the same way. It really shouldn't be a problem for them to oil your chain and index your gears, again they are exactly the same as a standard bicycle.

Does it sounds as bad as on the video when you go up a hill without motor power?

To be honest I don't use it without battery assist, not the fittest, 17 weeks pregnant and it's very hilly here, I only use setting 1 so I still get a work out. I will go out later and test your question though

Hi Sharon,

You'd want to locate the source of the noise, is it from the motor, or the rear cogs or the chain.
If the noise comes from the motor, remove the chain, turn the motor on and post a video if you can.
If the noise comes from the rear cogs, check the gear indexing, any bike shop can fix that.
