You could get a correct speed reading from a Garmin, or a basic trip computer.

If you go the latter route, get a wired one because some of the wireless ones don't work on an ebike.

Also, I see that Gaz had a similar problem here but I'm not sure if he ever got it resolved?

Nope, I didn't. The repair plate I was going to use mysteriously disappeared and nobody knew what happened to it

So instead of popping out to a DIY shop, I had a hissy fit and a good long sulk. But I came across the dongle in my kitchen yesterday and ordered the adapter plate. I'll update once it arrives.
