Badass fitting problem

Just tried fitting my Badass box to the Cube Race 2018 ebike but it doesn't fit.

First off, it doesn't even locate onto my original sensor, the sensor appears too big to fit the Badass onto, and if it did it would catch on the spokes. There is about 20mm clearance between the original sensor and the spokes, so there just isn't enough clearance for it to fit. Is they why they sell the adaptor bracket??

Original sensor..

Trying to fit the Badass, it just doesn't seem to locate onto the original sensor. Its as if the original sensor is jut too big to fit into the recess in the Badass...

Would their adaptor plate overcome this problem?

if it is not on right then you will get a error on the display 503 i think but as long as it is on the sensor and the magnet is in the right place it does not matter where it is as long as the dongle can sense the magnet.

I suspect your Bosch sensor is one that has insulation on the outside.

As you've found, the Badass won't fit.

Moving the sensor will not help it do so.

They might be now, but that wasn't always the case.

When I sold my Rose, I removed the dongle and thought I would fit it on the AVE MH7.

It wouldn't fit as the OP described.

I found something online about some sensors having insulation and removing it.

Whatever, what can't speak can't lie - the sensor on the AVE was too big for the dongle.

So am I buggered then? Do I have a bike that won’t allow a badass to be fitted? Or will their adapter bracket solve it?

unscrew the sensor and see if it then fits in the dongle if it does then you just need to move it so it clears the spokes.

Thanks. I’m not currently with my bike, but if i remove the rubber bung should I expect to see a bolt holding the sensor on?

yes just one bolt but from the pic above looks like it is on or if you push it all the way does it then hit the spokes ?

In that picture i was just holding the badass against my Bosch sensor. It certainly appears that my sensor is too big to fit inside the recess of the Badass.

When I get home tonight I will remove the sensor bolt ant see if I can get it to fit. If it doesn’t then I guess I might need one of their universal mounts that you linked earlier

if you cant fit the sensor in the dongle then a adaptor is not going to work but i cant see how you have a different shape sensor as looks same as mine.

if it dont fit id email bad ass and see what they say but other option is buy a new oem sensor link above.

Im going to email Badass and see what they say.

Im a little confused about the Badass Universal Mount, how exactly does it fit? I see there is a threaded home in the mount, what fits into this hole? There isn't a hole in the Badass dongle to use, and theres no hole in my bike frame to use, so I'm just not getting it???

OK, so I have had a temporary success. I have finally managed to clip the Badass onto my sensor, with just enough clearance spare, but I had to remove the sensor first (pull the rubber bung off and unscrew allen key bolt). With some force and jiggerpokery I managed to get it over the sensor, but it wasn't easy. I also moved the magnet over to the right, as per Badass youtube fitting video. (why don't the included instructions come in English?)

Just gone for a test ride and the Badass seems to be giving me assistance continuously :), which is what I wanted, I've ridden as fast as I can and I can't feel the treacle effect of the motor turning off. Success :)

However, I have lost my speedo accuracy. I realise it is supposed to only read half my speed when I get to 15mph, but my speedo is behaving differently. As soon as I set off the speedo jumps straight to 8mph, and then gradually increases to 12mph and stops there, even if I ride faster. When I come to a stop the speedo drops to 4mph and hangs there for a few seconds. Does this mean the magnet needs adjusting?

I'd like to keep my speedo working, at least with the advertised fault I know to double the speedo read out to ascertain my speed, but currently I haven't got a clue what speed I'm doing???

the sensor bolts on to the mount then you can use the cable ties to put it where you want and fix it in place.

you can try moving the magnet and see if that makes any difference to the speed on the display but it dont on my bike it either works or get a error msg.

Sound wave, thanks for your help pal, much appreciated :).

Just rode to work and the dongle appears to be doing its job. The motor assisted me for the whole ride whereas it would normally cut out on certain stretches of the route when reaching 15mph. It made my ride much more pleasurable not feeling the treacle effect.

On a downhill stretch where I normally freewheel at 32mph the speedo read 18mph, so I know that at that speed the speedo displays slightly over half of what my actual speed is.

I guess I now need to ignore what the speedo says and instead just appreciate the continuous assistance from the motor, which is what I wanted.

tbh i dont even look at my display to check the speed anymore as when ur flying down the canal at 30mph you need to look where ur going ;)

i also dont bounce anymore:(

Your right, as long as its working then I'm happy.

Had fun on my commute today, left it on Turbo and flew there and back, and the journey time was quicker :). It does eat the battery though :(
