Trouble with belting downhill on the country roads/lanes down here, is that there seems to be a sharp corner at the bottom of nearly every one.

In my teens I ended-up in a hedgerow or, if I was lucky, over a gate, more times than I care to ponder. Bend the forks straight in the bars of the gate - On the road again :p

That adds to the fun.

My favourite one has a slight downhill to build up speed, then a sharp bend to the right, where it's a case of bravery and inch perfect precision to carry as much speed as possible to the next 35% drop, which accelerates you to over 40mph in what seems a very short distance to a sweeping left bend, where you have to use the full width of the road as you hit the bottom of the dip mid-bend, then you can free-wheel for the next mile at speeds of over 20 mph. Oh what fun!

Trouble round here is they are almost all windy single lane with very limited forward visibility on the way down and passing places. Meet a tractor or a Tesco delivery van coming the other way round a corner when you're on a fast descent and chances are you're strawberry jam by the time you could stop. It's impossible to safely belt down them without playing russian roulette. I reserve belting downhill with corners for the main roads - or at least those with 2 lanes !

Zackly - Having got it out of my system way back when, my favourite rides now have grass growing down the middle and, hopefully, a dearth of b£00>¥ great tractors.

b£00>¥ great tractors indeed! All seem to be designed for the prairies nowadays, not little British back lanes:(

And as my brother, a lifelong farmer and agricultural consultant says, mostly unnecessary, overrated for the work in hand. The results of sales pressure of course. A classic case is when Tandridge Council mow the grass on Little Farleigh Green, turning up with one of the largest of all these four wheel drive tractors which dwarfs the mowers it's pulling. A garden tractor could do the job!

Jeez! How on earth do they do those speeds? You'd need a spotter on every corner.
I quite agree, they're the only segments I don't get KOM on, downhill ones. I'm not bad on some two lane ones. and there are a couple of short sharp climbs that some manage to sprint up, that I can't quite match, but I beat them on all the longer climbs.
