Attitude towards E-bikes

Found it.

Certainly a load of bullshit comments. Sadly as always the negative stands out from the positive

The positive replies outweigh the negative, as do the current 247 likes. :)

As said before, I didn't receive one negative comment at the Wiggle Rough Ride, so I'm guessing that it's just the usual case of ill informed small minded keyboard warriors just trying to be clever.
Don't mean to make light of your post but I find your phrase "small minded keyboard warriors" an excellently descriptive and highly amusing bit of prose which I will try my best to slot in somewhere appropriate in the future...

I wonder if Wiggle will take the comments to heart and dump Haibike when they have sold what stock they have.

They are bound to be wary of upsetting existing customers.

I know it's only vociferous knackers on facebook, but I am surprised mountain bikers have taken against ebikes in this way.

Generally, they are fairly laid back live and let live folk.

It's no coincidence mountain biking started in California among what could be called beach bums without the beach.

the attitude is a depressing reality within the main stream cycle industry I'm afraid.
I have had exactly that conversation today with owner of a local cycle shop who has been selling electric bikes for over 25years.
It was an interesting conversation of how he became first interested and saw the potential of them, and also how the cycle industry as a whole within the UK is still very anti them.
Odd why us Brits so often don't see opportunity when it's in front of our noses.

All those clever, oh so fit youngsters on F/B don't realise that every day that passes makes them older. One day, they too will be grateful for an ebike.

Actually - I think that comment right there is what is wrong about the perception of ebiking in this country.

Why should ebikes be the preserve of the infirm and elderly? Why can't you be healthy and ride an ebike for fun?

I could thrash most of those commenting up any hill they choose. I'm really fit with a resting heart rate of 44bpm and a vo2 max most of those guys can only dream of - I can run a marathon, I compete in triathalons etc but I still like to ride ebikes because they are FUN!

The sooner ebikers stop falling back to the old "well I have dodgy knees, bad back etc" and just reply and say "because they're fun" the better imho.

Unfortunately, most of them will become armchair pilots once the ageing process takes makes hard work of what they now find easy.

I completely agree with the above, whilst i freely admit I was forced to move to ebikes after my 4th knee op last year, if someone could wave a magic wand and give me new knees again i wouldn't go back to unassisted bikes, ebikes are such great fun and as i said in previous thread, we get to decide how much pain we want to suffer at the push of a button.

That's the sneaky, insidious nature of ebikes - Once we've used one, unassisted loses itcs charm. :)

True, and in my case after adopting an e-bike to help with towing heavy trailers, it resulted in me losing fitness, making unassisted cycling in my hilly area far too difficult,

I don't use FaceAche at all so don't know how to post on it. There was however an article here on Pedelecs about a heart patient whose Haibike changed his life. Can't seem to find it right now although it is on Martin's blog:-
http://www.e-bikeshop.co.uk/blog/post/e-bikeshop-gets-heart-patient-back-in-the-saddle-part-1/
http://www.e-bikeshop.co.uk/blog/post/e-bikeshop-gets-heart-patient-back-in-the-saddle-part-2/

Perhaps those who do know how to post on FaceBook could add a link to that article? Perhaps one or two of those who posted negative comments commented might take it to heart?

Edit:-
Found on here:-

http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/news/electric-mountain-bike-heart-patient-trails-part-2/
although the links between the two parts don't seem to work.

I have never, repeat never, encountered any animosity from non-electric riders.
Even when I overtake relatively fit riders.
Maybe it has something to do with my cheapo looking vehicle?
I always pedal when I use electric assistance.

I passed 4 cyclists up a hill today, I said hello to each one, not one of them responded. Then again they'd probably be the same even if my bike was unpowered, some just don't like being beaten, and have forgotten the simple joy of being out on a bike.

I passed the same one twice!! He got me back on the flat in-between 2 hills, and wouldn't even make eye contact the second time.. Now heres a thing.. Using the helmet mirror allows you to see them coming up behind and then putting on an unnatural spurt on as they try to pass..... I only do unnatural spurts on hills I might add!!

Naughty :D I slowed down and sat behind them, the last one tried very hard to drop me, before I clicked the power up and left them for dead

To be fair I really tried to keep up on the flat.. Helper had gone to sleep as it does on my fully legal bike, and HR was in zone 5 on the Garmin Gizmo.. I dont understand the VOmax thing, but if it means out of breath then I had one of those as well.
