Are the EU making a big mistake in limiting e-bikes to 25 Kg?

when this was discussed recently I am sure it was said that the 25kg limit was tied to bikes with throttles? No throttle no problem?

Aargh! My 31kg bike has a throttle. But (phew!) it is only 250w, however you measure that...

A 350 watt Bosch even with spare battery would be under 25kg, so that is what I would buy....

That was part of the proposal Eddie, but not set in stone at the time.

I think the bigger question is how the UK in the form of the DfT will react to unlimited power. Knowing our government's nanny state attitudes they could well refuse to implement it, or alternatively add more restrictions like helmets and insurance.

If the EU approve it, it will be a miracle if the UK nods it through unchanged.
