Are electric bikes just for lazy people?

David,I think you mean 'decent' not 'descent'. Well I hope you do! Good luck at the London show,I hope it broadens the market for e bikes. My guys will be at the Bristol show on Sunday. Not sure about your £2k limit I would argue that you can produce a decent e bike for less than £1k,in fact that seemed worth a new posting on its own.

Compared to my wife who always works extremely hard I reckon I am relatively lazy!
However since buying my generic Chinese manufactured Bearprint Ebike I have been completing a 26 mile round trip to work every work day for the last 18 months clocking up over 8000 miles of fitness enhancing non polluting travelling.
This is accept for some periods when the bike has been off road for mechanical or technical reasons.
My Raleigh Milk Race road bike has probably done less than 1000 miles in 30 or more years of ownership!
This week I have been Ebiking to work in the wind and rain and still enjoying saving petrol money and releasing our run around small car for my wife to use.
I think my Ebike makes me less lazy! :)

What a splendid day!

As I had hoped, absolutely packed, there were many times when all my bikes we out on trial. I don't know how many test rides were taken but it was certainly hundreds, it seems London is ready for electric bikes but the vast majority of people at the Electric Bike Fest had either never heard of them or if they had, did not know what they did. It was expensive for those that exhibited and I know the cost put a lot of people off but like most things in life you get what you pay for!

Everyone involved agreed it was the best electric bike day ever.

Thanks must go to the organisers for the massive advertising campaign that bought so many people in from London and the Home Counties especially to try an e-bike!

Really looking forward to another fantastic day today, and Douglas is set up and ready in Bristol, I really hope the rain holds off for both events!

All the best

David :)

I'm delighted it went well David as it's very important that Londoners get the message about electric-assisted cycling. The capital led the way in fashion during the 1960s, (remember Carnaby St?) and if, by raising awareness, Londoners grasp the ebike alternative, another trend might spread around the country.

As you say, for those who participated, it wasn't a cheap exercise but businesses need to speculate in order to accumulate so I hope till receipts reflect the interest shown this weekend. I couldn't make it yesterday but I might visit today, especially as the weather, in spite of the forecast, is looking very nice here at the moment.

Thanks Don and Indalo, it would be great to see you today, reading the post again, I do seem to be a little over excited!

However.... it was great, also good to see the teams from 50 Cycles, Green Zebra, Batribike, EBCO, Storck Radar (With the amazing £4000.00 Cosworth!) and Hero Eco.

Although ultimately we are all in competition with one another the camaraderie was superb with everyone recommending the best bike for the needs of the customer rather than just their own! Where else outside this superb industry would you see that happening? The mood was not selfish in any respect everyone was intent on getting as many "bums on saddles" as possible to promote the concept of electric biking rather than a specific brand.

The only down side was that the Guys from FreeGo were forced to pull out due to staffing problems.

All the best

David
