My battery cover silenced any rattling noises my battery made in its cradle, the squidgy material seeming to help to hold the battery gently but firmly in place where it was squeezed against the frame.

Why would the battery cool?. An ambient temperature of around 20 is perfect for the battery. AI'm guessing my £35 neoprene cover will not serve any purpose for me.
I ride casually from spring to mid autumn. I don't ride if wet. Do like cross coutry trails which I can see will most probably cause rattling.
So the cover is only being used to prevent rattle!

To add to that, it probably helps to keep the lock free from dust and muck as well.My neoprene battery cover combined with correctly adjusted battery mount cradle screws holds the battery very securely and adds some more shock absorption to the way the battery is held making everything very quiet.
Although I have not taken advantage of this benefit it would help protect the battery from impact.
With the weather the way it is I thought exactly the same thing! A battery cover will keep heat out if you are parked in direct sunlight.Stops sunburn
