Windows wouldn't exist without Mac OS ;)
:D
And neither would have existed if Xerox Corporation hadn't invented windows and the mouse at PARC. :D

In fairness though, it was Apple who first adopted them from the Xerox development, using them in Mac OS, Microsoft later copied them and cheekily added the capital W to windows so that they could register it as their trade mark.

Years ago I was told Macs had a reputation for crashing on the Internet. Indeed, mine can't load certain websites at all. Every time I went into a shop to buy software, it was all for the PC. Only software I was ever able to buy off the shelf was Falcon 4.0. The amount of times it crashed and froze completely was too much, nearly gave me a nervous breakdown. The PC is also bad, but would lock up a fraction of the time. Which one is better I don't know, computers really **** me off, so many times they have nearly gone out of the window. If I could never touch another computer again....

Also, quite why anyone would use the worst example of a PC store, or any store, PC World, as an example is amusing! :D Bit like my ebike dealer!

But just don't get me started on bloody iPods, or even mp3s in general. Usless piece of crap they are, perfect for my generation to listen to their bland nicked music anyway. I will listen to my vinyl instead.

Don't forget there's another alternative: Linux. It used to be for geeks that loved to get inside operating systems and take command. Now there's Ubuntu Linux, which is easy to use, intuitive, reliable and virus free. It's totally free - as is all the Linux software. You can install it in any PC instead of or alongside Windows. They also seem to have an ap for everything. The free Open Office software is very comprehensive and you can swap files seemlessly with MS Office. You can download a CD image and run it from there without installing it to try it out. Naturally, it'll be slower running from CD.
The main advantages that I've found are:
Security - almost impossible to get a virus or spyware or adware
You don't get locked out or slowed down while your pc is updating virus software (not needed)
Internet browsing is faster because it doesn't have to check every page for malicious code before opening it
Everything's free

The only downside that I've experienced is that, while there's drivers for most hardware, if you have something unusual (in my case guitar usb interfaces), there may not be specific drivers available, but this is improving all the time.

Have to stick my two penn'orth in, as a Mac user of nigh on 25 years.

They are smooth, they define the (otherwise execrable term) 'user-friendly', as was said above the current ones come LOADED with all sorts of top-level programs, and in my 25 years I've not come across a program I couldn't get for my Macs.

Oh, and they're almost virus-proof.

Over-priced? Yes of course, as are Kalkhoffs, Wispers, Mercedes, Miele, Bose, and so on. You CAN find a cheaper ebike, car, washing machine, hi-fi system, or personal computer, but if you bite the bullet and pay the price, you end up with a top-of-the-range piece of kit which ends up being worth the extra.

Allen (iMac, Powerbook, and oh yes, Wisper 905se).

I love Linux Ubuntu. It doesn't work for every machine but I've found it excellent for personal use and an old laptop I had lying around.

I've been very tempted by Apple Macs but like lots of things I get stuck at the do I really, really need one of those stage. :)
