Just on their site and they sell ebikes up to 2000w 36mph purely for off road but if you want to use them on road they have a limiter built in where you can change power output to Uk street legal 250w output 15.5mph can this be true?

Yes it's true that the speed can be adjusted.

Stick around a while and have a read, you'll get educated that way. It's an interesting forum for sure.

Don't worry Steve, we have a reverend on board now. All your sins can be forgiven. :)

Welcome.

Thank god for that Leigh lol,
Why would it be illegal if You used it limited on roads? it does actually say on the site its a loophole in the law
The fact that it can be switched over to 2000w mode makes it very illegal.

It's the presence of a switch. That's illegal. The legislation specifically mentions that. They are pushing the boundaries of it can be reprogrammed or adapted for off road. The debate awaits a prosecution to define the limits.
Ps off road is also a misnomer. It's private land with restricted access.
Any public access area is considered in law a licences area so going 2kw on a mates farm with public access is driving an unlicensed motor vehicle without tax insurance mot etc. Not likely to happen but if it did a huge world of grief.

It's not the switch that's illegal, it's the motor. You can only use a motor with a rated continuous output power of 250w maximum, which therefore excludes 2000w motors even if you ran them at 1 watt.

I don't see what the problem is if it's 2k but if you ride round on the road at 36mph on just the throttle I'm sure you will get a tug by the law.

They now make only 500 and 1000w this is what they say
The UK/EU regulations dictate that an e-bike must not exceed the rated power of 250W to be road-legal. Which is not great news for the thrill-seekers, power hungry among us who want to have the occasional fun off-road yet still be able to ride sensibly and legally on-road. A purchase of the common high powered electric bike will come with its legal implications. On the other hand, the practicality of a road-legal e-bike means giving up the extra power/speed one could enjoy off-road. So which do you choose?

CycloTricity had set out to resolve this dilemma and introduced the first electric bike range that combine both configurations!
The bike will come preset to the road-legal mode of 250W by default. The dual-mode system is embedded in the LCD Dashboard which can unlock the full power of the system using a special code (this can be obtained upon signing the de-restriction terms of use).
Please note that this is not the same as a de-restriction switch which has been questionable from a legal standpoint.

will definately be getting one just dont know which to get, dont want to spend all that money and police inpound it day after i get it!
Just don't take the Michael, like many racing bike riders do. Cruising along at 40 plus, running red lights etc. 20-25 is negligible and plenty. Use road sense and ride sensibly. Enjoy yourself. It's what ebikes are for. ;)

you can peddle above the motor speed limit and then there is no top speed.
