Agree though that, as for automobile traffic, speed restrictions should apply for all vehicles where needed. This would include city paths or complex traffic environments. On good bike paths between suburbs or cities, set a higher restriction more suited to Speed Pedelecs.
Agreed. What I don't want to see is the occasional S class speed freak mixing it at 28 mph with the more sedentary 12 mph utility cyclists on urban cyclepaths.

Of course it's all a bit academic here where cycling facilities are often sharing a pavement with walkers or riding inside a painted white line on a road.

Last night out on my ride I crossed paths with a dweeb in a BMW: twice the legal speed (100 km/h instead of 50 km/h) in a corner using a lot more of my half of the road than I was comfortable with.

I hope I surprised him and his girlfriend screamed at him but I doubt it. Dweebs with tiny little peckers who drive BMWs with big exhaust pipes will remain diminished dweebs...
My experience, so far, is that most of the bigger and faster cars and vans have been pretty good even if going too fast. The ones that repeatedly scare me are the small cars, like Corsas, the drivers of which seem to think there is plenty of room to pass me without crossing the white line at all. (Might be true on a wide road, I am talking about fairly narrow lanes as a rule.)
