An ebiker has been reported for motoring offences, the suspected (seized) ebike was illegally tampered to assist over the 15.5mph cut off. This has come about following the ebike rider colliding with a pedestrian on Park Lane and the Met have reported them for no licence or insurance.
The pedestrian received a head injury resulting from the collision on 30 Sept and all that so far is known.

Regarding the bike speed, EN15194 allows for 15.5mph/ 25 kmh cut off assist speed +/- 10% so one can have a speed reading of 17.05 mph or 27.5 kmh.

My 250w tsdz2 cuts off at 17mph so I wonder if Tongsheng have taken this in to account and programmed them as so in line with EN15194.

It seems reported for no insurance/no license, but not for using a motor vehicle on a cycle path (at least, not mentioned in the article). Possibly no insurance/no license are such routine offences that the police know what bits of paper to fill in, but illegal motor on cycle patch is less common.

It certainly brings out what several of us have said on several threads: you will almost certainly get away with an illegal bike unless you are involved in an accident, in which case the police may take a very careful look.

The cyclist can be pursued through the courts by a no-win-no-fee lawyer. A friend had his foot broken by a legal SUV in a Sainsbury's car park. He got just over £10k after fees, but his foot now hurts constantly - he can't walk more than a couple of hundred yards without intense pain.

The DfT have said the 10% speed limit allowance is internationally recognised.

A nephew had a run in with a escooter user recently, the nephew is built like a brick out house and to walk through doors he has to turn side ways for his shouders to go thru. Any how the escooter rider not only ended up with a fat lip to walk home with, he had two halves of a e scooter to carry as well .

lf you attach a GPS speedometer to your bike, you will almost certainly find that the bike's speedometer over reads by 1-2mph

The UK Police are getting wiser it would appear.
So this should clearly be seen as a "earlyy" warning to anyone riding an illegal e-bike, though as mentioned elsewhere, they are probably safe, till they have an accident.......
