Morning SW,
Regarding your question late last night you cant take photos faster than your camera can write the file. using a faster card and reducing the file size (resolution) will help but wont fix it.
I am on the pc now so here are a few options, but I suspect you wont really want to do this..
When I was in my "photographer" phaze I had a Canon 5D mk2 and used the "Magic Lantern" firmware hack to open up other possibilities which included bitrates but was mostly aimed at video enhancement, but have been out of that for 3 years now so dont know whats in there now, and now there is a Nikon option..

Beware you may brick your camera doing this!!
Also I purchased a "Camranger"

Which makes your camera wifi by creating its own ad hock network which you can log in to on your phone/ipad/pc/lappy and when using this there are apps and programs that will do exactly what you were asking for by setting a time value that's lower than the write speed, but its a tripod/tethering thing.
To do this I also purchased the 360 motorised tripod kit which opened up a world of possibilities by giving full wireless remote control.

This is why camera buffs have big bags and no money!!

When I gave up I sold most of my gear and bought an e bike
