Android app for speedo, bike computer, GPS etc. ?

I have been investigating the use of my android phone as a GPS, speedo, bike computer, ride logger etc. I have a nice waterproof case for the phone, that has a clear top that the touch screen will work through, and it's mounted in the middle of my handlebars.

So, what software to use? Here's what I have tried so far

1. Speedview - First app I tried, is basically a speedo and odo, with a few extras such as time, avg speed, max speed, elevation, and a graphing function thrown in. Works well though.

2. BicyComp - This one has a map that tracks you position and marks your route as you ride. It can display speed, distance, average speed, max speed, time moving, time stopped, sunrise, sunset. tried this one today, and seems good. Lacks any permanent logging of the trip.

3. B.iCycle - Best looking app I have seen. Has more features than most. Has a map, and displays time, speed, distance, position on map, records avg and max speed, calculates kcal burned, and altitude climbed. First time I tried it, was having problems as it doesn't seem to be drawing the path that I take on the map, might be a bug. Will try this one again, next time out.


I would be very interested in hearing what others use. There are so many choices out there, but finding a good one is difficult.

Cycledroid is a good one, you can pull previous rides up by Altitude/distance, speed/distance, speed/ time. Displays speed, average speed, max speed, distance, ride time, altitude, elevation acended, elevation decended and a lot of other stuff

Interesting app. Has all the usual readouts, but adds "slope" which I would find interesting. Doesn't do any mapping of the ride though. Also, the author needs to spend some time making the display look nice. Still functionality before appearance.

ive been trying cyclestreets android app, not got to grips with it fully but it has (liveride function) gives audio directions which I find usefull.

not tried cycledroid though.

I use it for all sorts of outdoors activities from a bike speedo to a GPS route logging device for seeing how much further my dog walks than I do!
It has OS maps and bing imagery amongst others (OSM cycle route).

If you're old fashioned and use a gps device for gps mapping, this site provides uk mapping for Garmin units, based on openstreetmap. You can have the mapping with or without contours, and with or without routing too. Cyclestreets is great, but it cuts out a lot of the information that openstreetmap provides. Include the NASA sourced contour data with the standard openstreetmap and you have the height data of Cyclestreets with the extra data of osm.
