Soldering is always better if you can manage it, handles the amps better.Anyone know where I can buy in the UK, a tool suitable to crimp PowerPole connectors?
Or is there a way to do it without a special tool?
I use 30 amp connectors and a nail to crimp them then solder them. Link below to show you how. What size power poles are you all using?
I used 30A ones but found it difficult to assemble when using 12swg cable. I thought i had bought the wrong ones. The alternative was to use 14swg cable which i was trying to avoid.
I used to be a HGV/PSV fitter and the battery connection had to take 200 amps + . the original crimp ones from the makers often burnt out, our soldered ones never. Ive never understood that statement, must be from a pen pusher type, who has never seen the shop floorI gather crimping is the preferred connection over soldering- less internal resistance.
That said I solder mine- 50A connectors.
