Ancheer 250w Electric Mountain Bike

Hi All

I have an Ancheer 250w Electric Mountain Bike, I got it second hand about a year ago and the previous owner had it for a few years beforehand. Its been a decent Bike, however its power sucks to be honest. The battery is a 36v 8AH and it has a 250w Rear Hub Motor. I have thought about various upgrades but never done any, however the battery has finally got to the point where its lucky to keep its charge for a 2 mile journey now. I dont want to bin the bike so I have ordered a new battery 36v 13Ah that sits on the rear rack, as the current battery is strapped to the front of the bike which I hate. I was thinking about upgrading the bike components to 500w - 750w but what I like about this bike is it has Mag Wheels so trying to get a higher rated motor to fit in the existing hub isnt easy.

The bike at 250w is ok but it really struggles with hills (maybe just down to the failing battery) and at times feels like the peddle assist is doing nothing, any suggestions on how to get a bit more power in the bike?

You need new controller or adjust power on your existing one if you can. It would be silly to change motor to illegal. Make sure your battery will deliver power you need. It is unfortunate you didn't ask before buying.

Please post some pictures of your bike, motor and motor connector.

You didn't tell us which Ancheer you have, so I can only give general advice.

Upgrade the battery to 48v, get a separate 48v 15A controller set. Enjoy your 30% increase in torque and better riding experience. Total cost around £350.

Thanks for the reply, from what I can see its the Ancheer ‎B08KQFS8KY (Classic Folding Mountain Bike).

I have attached pictures of the Bike and its controller. Sorry I cant take the Bike to bits at the moment to take a picture of the motor as I am at work, I do know its a Jiabo Motor, I think PY36V26"250W21040343 .

Hi All

Just speaking to a colleague, he says he has a spare 48v controller that does up to a 1500w motor that I can have for free, would that with a 48v battery work, or would that destroy the motor due to the capability of drawing over 30amps?

You don't need a new controller. That one is dual voltage, so all you need is a 48v battery. Fit it where you want and how you want, then join the two wires.

A1500w controller would definitely destroy the motor and probably the battery too.

Your controller is already a dual voltage jobby see tye battery voltage on the label ;)
Controllers are generally measured using the Peak Power output metric in amps, 15a is the typical controller for a eu/uk legal hub drive bike.. applying a controller with a significantly higher output such as one designed for a 1500w motor would risk burning out the motor if fully applied.

Try a 48v battery with your current controller to start with If you still feel you need more oomph to get you upto 15mph then a bigger controller is also an option but i dont think you will need it.

Fully charged 48V battery has over 54V. 54V and 15A will give over 800A of input power. It is really a lot for a bike with hub motor and small wheels. I would do as Seneagle said. New 48V battery and your bike should be transformed... and still legal.

Just fully charge the 48v battery before plugging in that way there should be no ambiguity over the battery connected and the control system should automatically adjust. If a depleted 48v battery is connected its low voltage may be mistook for a fully charged 36v battery in error..

If more power is still required a 17a peak output controller upgrade could be considered but any more and you may also wish to monitor motor temps more closely.

There's another typo too that you missed. He said "give over 800w", when he meant to type "take over 800w"
