Can anyone tell me whether this particular model is regulated when the purple wires are disconnected. The wiring diagram for the 2010 model labels the purple wire connection as a throttle independent or not switch, however the owners manual for this late 2011 model refers to disconnection of these wires to test the motor for raw power, presumably this means de-restricted. Can anyone help please ?

Get a friend to help you. Lift the motor-wheel off the ground and give it full throttle. While it's spinning like that, disconnect the wires. If it speeds up (you'll hear it), they're the speed limiter wires.

Thanks for the fast response. The bike has a main stand so I can get the front wheel off the ground no problem. When the purple wires are connected, twisting of the throttle causes the front wheel to give a sudden burst of power before cutting out. This is supposed to be walkalong mode with the motor cutting out when the walking speed is reached. So disconnection of the purple wire when the motor is running full throttle is impossible. The model 706 Alpino that I have was manufactured in July 2011 and unlike the previous model has both pedelec and throttle control, a larger 16 amp battery and larger 28" wheels and a 250W motor.
